Partial venue or buyout

It would depend.... Is there enough of a private area for your guests without having to rent the whole place? If I had enough privacy I probably would not but I certainly would want to make sure they had enough people staffed to handle my event that were not involved with any other part of the restaurant that day. That seems like money that could be spent elsewhere unless you have an unlimited budget.

I think having part of the restaurant works if it's plenty of space for your guests!

We are not buying out, but the space is separate from the main restaurant (outdoor deck and connected party room). It's sufficient space for our crowd and enough access control and bathrooms. I'd just want to make sure randoms can't wander in

It depends in part on your budget. Our total budget was $10,000, so we would never have spent $4,000 for just that. (Private dining room worked fine for us.) But if your budget is $100,000, then $4,000 would be a drop in the bucket.

I didn't buy out mine because it was just way too much and the portion they allotted for us was spacious enough.

We didn't have a wedding planner. Given that the restaurant was taking care of everything from food and alcohol to decorations, we didn't see a need.

Well, it depends on what you mean by decorations. The restaurant was decorated enough for our taste, all by itself. We didn't add anything.
