Party for people who aren't invited?

My dad keeps mentioning having a party before the wedding for people who weren't invited to the wedding (it's a small wedding) but who are still an important part of our lives. He seems to think it's a pretty common practice, but I've never heard of it. (He's also not American so it may be an Irish thing?)

Has anyone else heard of this?

Seems odd to me. If you wanted to host them for a wedding celebration, wouldn't you just invite them to the wedding?

I agree. Also, I’d be concerned that people will think they’re invited to the wedding once they’re invited to an event that’s taking place before the wedding.

I would be offended if I was invited to a party to celebrate the wedding but not important enough to attend the actual wedding. Maybe this is a know your crowd thing but my family is as laid back, go with the flow as they come and they would be pissed if I had done this.

It’s not uncommon to have a second reception type party for people who could not come to the wedding if you eloped, or your wedding was a destination wedding. Usually it’s after the wedding- not before.

I agree! You could always host a small party after. Since it is a small wedding, you could show pictures from your ceremony, etc. at this party.
