Party Supplies for Drinks!

Mrs. Del Grosso, on July 22, 2012 at 6:36 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

So my FH and I are providing all alcohol, sodas, water, and other beverages, cups, beverage napkins, straws?, etc for the bartender (she is doing the bartending for free)

We are having a cocktail hour with 2 signature drinks, along with other non-alcoholic beverages as well. The two drinks will most likely be sangria and margaritas (maybe on the margarita). I was thinking about getting plastic cups for all the beverages including alcoholic ones. I've heard from people that I should do the hard plastic decorative cups (picture below) for the signature drinks. I was going to order all those party supplies from oriental trading, IMO I think I should stick to regular plastic cups. I know the hard plastic ones can't be that much more (price wise) but I'm trying to get all of these types of things for as cheap as possible.

What do you ladies think? Should I get the hard plastic ones for cocktail hour just to keep it more "fancy" or just stick to all regular plastic cups?

Thanks!

I wouldn't waste the money on the fancy cups. For your non-alcoholic beverages, I would get 16 ounce cups. Since your alcohol is limited, and to avoid waste, I would get 10 ounce hard plastic cups. I checked Oriental Trading and couldn't find what I was looking for. But here is a link to Party City.

We rented glassware, however, when our DOC left at 10:00, the glassware went with her. To replace, I bought 16 ounce cups for the beer and non-alcoholic beverages and the 10 ounce cups for the mixed drinks.

@ Carole M - Thank you, I didn't think it was a good idea to have the fancy cups either. I'm afraid to do glassware for any that break. We are having open bar from 6-9 and then 9-10 will be all other drinks (the reception is over at 10)

I just checked oriental trading and certain colors come in plastic and then certain colors come in paper (really weird) thanks for the size cup I would need. I guess it's standard size..? Wasn't sure what to do. I'm going to check out party city as well as like costco, sam's and a couple other places for pricing. Probably wouldn't make much of a difference though.

    Thanks again!

Megan....It was my pleasure. You really may do far better at Costco or Sam's Club. I would avoid the paper cups. You have some time, so price it out. Party City often has Buy 1 Get 1 Free sales. Since we supplied everything for our wedding weekend, I found it far easier to buy something wedding related every time I hit the liquor store and/or Costco. While I still spent the same amount of money, it was less of a huge hit on the purse at one time.

Oh, I just thought of something. Wait it out until Black Friday, if I am not mistaken Oriental Trading has a heck of a sale on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Yeah splitting the alcohol up through time (buying wise) is the exact same thing I was doing! Didn't even think about waiting until black Friday!

Check for rebates on alcohol! They're paper tags that hang off the bottles in the store or are attached to the shelf -- some are small ($5 off when you buy 2 750mL bottles) but some are more substantial ($40 when you buy 5 750 mL). If you're flexible about the brands you choose, you can definitely same some extra money by submitting for the rebates!

A pack of 50 SOLO cups for drinks is ~$4, so even if you just find one rebate it's like you got something else free!

Oh and I agree that you don't need fancy cups for the signature drinks.

Hi Megan. I'm also supplying my own beer/wine & non alcohoic drinks for my reception so I've been gathering items too. I've found 10 oz clear acrylic tumblers at Costco for less than $10.00 for a pack of 150. (which I will use for the beer). I found the 9 oz (shorter) acrylic cups at Sams also for less than $10.00 for a pack of 200 (which I will use for tea & lemonade). Since I'm serving wine I've been trying to find disposable wine glasses. The best I've seen so far for bulk is Koyal Wholesale. Here's the link in case you are interested. I believe this is for 70 of the glasses.
