So, we had to wait for FH mother to try to locate his birth certificate, which she never did! So I made his 29 year old butt just order one, and imagine that...it was shipped OVERNIGHT for a cost of just 50 dollars, lol. But that being said, we are behind our established timeline for ordering our passports. The US travel department states it takes 4-6 for regular submissions, and 2-3 wks for expedited services, but I have heard what I hope are "exaggerated stories" of how it can take months Smiley sad That being said we are thinking EXPEDITED is the way to go...better safe than sorry...

But out of curiosity, how long did it REALLY take for you to get your passport in the mail?

My brother and SIL got theirs in less than 2 months...but that was super risky for them- I would do it now!

    Passports & Birth Certs...

Keep in mind when you order your passport you MUST give them an original birth certificate - you will receive your birth certificate back within a few days of receiving your passport.

If you order now, you have plenty of time to get your passport without paying the extra rush fees. Just follow all of the instructions carefully, make sure you submit everything correctly.

(I work in a study abroad office at a university--we're advising students about this daily)

I went and got mine at the post office and it was 4 weeks from filling out the paper work to passport in my mail box. You might want to call where your going to get the passport cause I had to set up an appointment so I had to come back another day but they can tell you the average time cause it would fluctuate a little bit.

Thank you all soooo much! TRULY helpful. Just found out our local post office doesnt do them so I will either go to the city courthouse or the passports agency in Atlanta and get that all squared away no later than Monday. I will make sure to go line by line and then proof again Smiley smile

@SpicyDeene- we have originals...my mom gave me TRUE original...the dusty one from 1985, lol and FH ordered his from the state and received yesterday.

@Mrs.S- I think PRE-wedding honeymoons should be mandatory, lol...but since i'm not rich I will have to settle for the after, lol Smiley smile

I had a quick turnaround less than 3 weeks with no expedited service. I renewed mine last February.

    K. K and mrsaj2b: Thanks for calming me in regards to the process. I am feeling at peace with not doing it expedited. It seems like most people whose process took longer was due to a processing error and expediting does not ensure that will not happen Smiley sad So really all I can do is be very meticulous with paperwork and PRAY over it, and I literally am Smiley smile

Aimee: Glad this was helpful for you too. Cinco De Mayo Honeymoon...fun!!!

I'm in this situation right now! My husband (to be) just applied for his passport a week ago and we honeymoon in 5 weeks. We are REALLY up against it. He is calling today to try to get some kind of status update but we may need to try to get some kind of appointement in person with someone if they can't give us a date when it will be delivered.

It's not very busy I was told and I had a group of friends (11) that went to get theirs the week before I did and without expediting they had them within 2 weeks(yesterday) so I'm hoping I get mine next week. My FH had to wait on his birth certificate and drivers license (had the wrong address on it) so he will be a little over 5 weeks from when we leave for our honeymoon. Should I still have him expedite it if everyone has been getting them quickly?

There is a service who guarantees that you will have your passport within 14 days. It costs an additional I think $100 to $125 in addition to the regular fees.

Well I dont know what's going on with ours. Our wedding is July 6 and honeymoon is July 8. We applied on May 16, 2019 because we were told they are so quick to come back (even by the postal worker who submitted ours). We haven't heard anything from ours yet and its been 4 weeks. I called last week and the rep said they got it on May 21 so 6 weeks from then would be July 2... we don't even have our birth certificates back and it's been 4 weeks...smh Kinda nervous at this point.

You have heard it right. The regular service takes 4 to 6 weeks and the expedited process takes only 2 to 3 weeks. If there is any mistake in your documentation only then it takes months to arrive. But as you have 13 weeks yet, you don't have any need to pay extra for expediting. It will arrive on time!

They say 4-6 to weeks, but the passport office we went to said it should be no later than 4 and even encouraged us to call and check if it took more than 4. Realistically, there should only be a delay if there is a major change like full legal name, gender marker, etc. or if there is something out of order at the Social Security office or you just plain forgot to include something.

I received my passport right at the 4-week mark. My husband applied for his a week after me and received his passport the day after I got mine!
