Yes, it would be weird and inappropriate to have them pay for their bouquets. Of the list of things bridesmaids usually pay for in weddings, the flowers they hold are not one of them. You can cut costs in this area by having them all hold a single flower, looking for smaller bouquets with cheaper flowers, or negating the bouquets altogether. Some people even use their bridesmaid bouquets as decor in the reception space to help cut costs. Ask your florist what you can do to cut costs in this area, don't have your bridesmaids foot the bill.

No, you need to pay for their bouquets if you want them to carry bouquets. What about sizing down to a single stem per bridesmaid? Are you looking at in-season florals? That will cut your costs as well.

I would definitely not ask for your bridesmaids to pay for their own bouquets! To make the bouquets cheaper, you could do something a little different: such as, what about having each bridesmaid carry a single flower (a sunflower, rose, etc) instead of a whole bouquet?:

Or you could have them carry lanterns:Pay Your Way: Florals 2

Or really anything else! They could walk down the aisle with purses, books, balloons, dream catchers, etc. Those would all probably be much cheaper than a bouquet.

Do you have your heart set on real flowers? If you’re crafty, Sola wood flowers are a good alternative. You can get a bag of 100 for around $30. Add the stems, paints and vases, and you could have bouquets, centerpieces, etc for under $200. I know they aren’t for everyone, but they do come out beautifully and a lot more affordable. Just a thought! I do agree with previous posts though, I think that the flowers should come out of your budget, not the bridesmaids budget. The other posts above had nice suggestions for alternative ideas. I think the lantern idea would be nice. 😊
