Paying for bridal party hmua

Mrs. Rachel Lamb, on October 2, 2019 at 7:46 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 25
Hi! As a bride, are you obligated to pay for your bridal party’s hair and make up? They are all flight attendants and they know very well how to do it but since they’re coming from different parts of the world I feel that they’ll be spending more than enough just to come so I’m thinking of shouldering their dress and HMUA. I found a great hairstylist (they own a salon) and does make up too but they have just 7 photos on their portfolio. It’s going to be just $95 each HMUA for my entourage (I have 6 plus my mom and fmil) so I think that’s already a steal. But they are 2hrs and half away from where we live and that makes it difficult for me to get a make up trial which I think is necessary. I’m not particular with how they want their hair to look but I’m concerned if I should hire them and just get another make up artist just for me. They do just traditional make up and I want to have an airbrush. Should I go for it?

It's always nice if you can cover it, but you arent obligated to unless you want everybody to have a certain hairstyle/makeup look. Trials for the BMs arent necessary. It's just an added cost honestly.
I'm not sure it's weird to have another HMUA person come if they dont offer airbrush and that's what you want.
Have you asked your girls if they might want that done as well?

If you're requiring them to have their hair and makeup done, then yes, it should be in your budget. If its optional, you can let them know it's their choice if they want to pay the amount but you're not requiring it. Smiley smile Happy planning!

It's definitely a nice little perk if you can afford to do it for your girls, but it's not a necessity unless you're requiring that they have their hair and makeup done professionally. Otherwise they can just diy Smiley smile

I asked and was surprised that not everyone wanted it. Some did, some just wanted hair or make up and some wanted to do it all themselves. So, I would ask them. If you can afford it, pay for it for them. I'm offering airbrush makeup for everyone because our wedding is 9 hours long and on the beach. Don't want to worry about touch ups.

I'm not requiring it, but I am offering to pay for it for those who are interested. They don't know that yet that I plan to cover it, but have all expressed interest in getting hair and makeup done.

I agree, if you are requiring them to wear make up and a nice hairstyle, then yes it should be budgeted. I have hired a mua for myself and my sister is doing my hair. My mua asked if any of my bridesmaids will be getting their make up done too, and I told her no. I have 6 bridesmaids, and only 3 of them wear make up everyday. The other 3 rarely wear make up, and I didn't want them to feel obligated to get their make up done and not be comfortable. I was recently a bridesmaid and this wedding was the same way. We all got ready in a condo and it was quite fun, everyone sitting down and doing their own make up, helping each other with hair. It made the morning feel less rushed.

I'm paying for all my girl's hair and makeup since they are traveling to my destination wedding.

    I didn't. I didn't dictate how I wanted their hair either.

I paid for everyone's HAMU (besides two bridesmaids and my FMIL who opted to do their own makeup) but I still let them pick their own style. My mom had a trial & I did, but no one else did. Can you find an artist that offers airbrush & traditional?

I’m actually okay with whatever hairstyle they want or make up. I showed them the price range while I was comparing HMUA around the area and they were surprised how expensive it is compared to where we’re from. One even said she’ll just do it herself which I don’t mind because she’s really good at it. I guess I just want them to feel pampered too on my day.

Nope. Not requiring them to look a certain way. But when booking for HMUA they ask how many people are going to have their hair and make up done so they’ll know if they’ll have to add another artist. I just feel shy to ask them to cover for something when they are already paying for accomodation to come to my wedding.😊

One of my bridesmaids said they’ll just do it themselves and my maid of honor suggested they just curl their hair which could save me a lot of money. But they are my bestfriends and I feel shy that they have to do that.

I think everyone in my bridal party would say yes since it would take the stress off of them to get ready. The thing is this make up artist doesn’t do airbrush which I’d like to try for myself so I don’t have to worry about touch ups. My wedding will be next fall and I was hoping it wouldn’t be so hot by then. But with the weather these days, I could be wrong.

I think it would be the same with my friends since it would be less of a hassle to do it themselves or look for someone else to do it for them.

I’m having my mom and FMIL’s hair and make up done. 3 of my bridesmaids are flight attendants while the other 3 doesn’t really wear make up the way we do everyday although they know how. I know two of my friends would be happy to do their make up but I just feel bad that I’m getting pampered and they’re not. We’ll all get ready at my bridal suite at our venue so it should be fun!

That’s what I’m thinking too since they’re all flying from different countries to my wedding.

I don’t require them to look a certain way too. But considering they’re flying to wedding I feel obligated to pamper them too.

I actually found one that does airbrush and is only 15 mins away from where we live compared to the other HMUA that’s 2.30hrs away. But the trial alone for make up is $125 and on the day is $185. For the other HMUA the $595 package includes my hair and make up, 5 bridesmaids and hair for 1 flower girl which I think is a steal. I want to book them for my entourage and my hair then just book the closer artist for my make up alone so I could at least get a trial. I want to pamper my friends too but I also want to make sure that I get the look that I want on my wedding day. Would that be bad if I hire the other one as well?

Well, all you can do is ask... and the worst they can say is no. Smiley smile Just let them know that it's okay if they dont want to but you wanted to give them the option. That way, you know what to expect and still have your headcount. You can even be straight with them and say that's why you're asking. Good luck and happy planning. 🍀

Even if you aren’t requesting a certain look per say, you should still cover the HAMU costs of requiring them to be professionally done by a makeup team. That is, if they opt to go that route. Those seem like good prices for makeup, glad you found someone closer who airbrushes!
