Paying for the dress

Nisha, on September 9, 2021 at 1:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

Are y'all paying by cash/debit card? Credit card?

I told my fiancé that I prefer to pay with credit card just for the purchase protection, but he is insisting that I use the debit card for his account. I've heard horror stories of brides paying for a dress and the dress shop going out of business before they get their dress. I'm not going to a hole in the wall dress shop, but you never know.

I paid credit card, but my mom put money in my account for it since my parents want to pay for my dress. so its already paid off.

I paid using my credit card. Can you just use your credit card & then just pay off your credit card balance later using the money from his account? That would be a win/win situation lol pleases both of you & helps with credit!

My mom offered to pay for my dress and I believe she used a credit card. I probably also would've used a credit card if I paid. More points I can use later! and helps my credit!

Use a credit card (especially if it has travel points), then just pay it off. You can accrue points to use toward your honeymoon.

Oh I didn't even think of that, haha! I paid debit, and thankfully the store didn't go out of business so no issues with the dress collection.

My fiance has a credit card that he gets points on, so for most purchases he puts everything on the card and I transfer money, but we didn't even think of doing that for my wedding dress. We would have got so many points too!

My sister in law actually put it on her credit card, and then we sent her the money. I wasn't planning on purchasing my dress the day we went and didn't even think to bring the card we're using for wedding purchases, so she covered it and we repaid her but I am glad that now it'll have that purchase protection.

I paid with a debit card and had no problems at all but that is terrible for that to happen to pay and lose your dress and payment. I hope that all goes well for you.

I used my debit card. Fortunately the shop didn't close before I got my dress. I didn't even think about using my credit card.

I paid by credit card. So few vendors took credit cards that I took every opportunity to use mine! I like the opportunity to earn the points & also the relative security. But my fiancé & I have a budget/financial setup where we use our credit cards almost exclusively but treat it like cash—we only put on the card what we already have money in the bank for, and pay off the charges in full. This works for us but if you’re less comfortable with credit cards I wouldn’t do it! Don’t carry debt for your dress.

Whatever you decide, don’t pay in full if you don’t have to. My salon allowed a 50% deposit with the remainder paid on pickup. My jeweler & tailor had similar. As long as there aren’t any additional fees, that’s a great thing to do for some added protection.

I used a credit card and paid it off with cash. Doing most of the things for my wedding this way. I’m using the points for airfare and travel for our honeymoon.

I bought my dress 14 years ago at a thrift store that did deals with dress manufacturers. Here's the story. My mom and I were out shopping ( I was 22 at the time) and my at that time fiance and I were obviously planning a wedding. I had found the dress as I mentioned, it cost 289$ brand new with original tags. It was the most gorgeous dress I have ever seen and have not seen since. Well, I would up with a surprise package who is now 11, and didn't wind up having a wedding at all and just went to the court house. We have since divorced and now my fiance's( who I have been with for the last 6 years are going to have a wedding and I get to wear my dress. I'm going to be trying it on this weekend to see if it is still structurally sound and the embellishments are still beautiful. I will post pictures then. It's not been altered yet, but I wanted to make sure that I don't have to go dress shopping before it's to late. To answer your question, I worked 3 weeks straight to get overtime to pay for the dress, and used my bank card. I didn't have a credit card at the time.

I didn't even think about the fact that any shop might not take credit cards. I try to use my card for everything, for the points, then use the points to get holiday gift cards. One salon that I'm going to requires 60% down, but I know that varies. Thanks!

I do think most wedding dress places will take cards! We ran into “checks only” with hair/makeup, photographer, videographer, caterer, & bar.

I ended up taking out a David's Bridal credit card. I make regular payments on it every month as I would a regular CC. I've also used it to buy my veil and headband.
