Pearls a bad thing

Mrs. Fisher, on May 10, 2010 at 12:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

So for mothers day yesterday, my Grandmother gave me something very important. My Grandfather passed away a little over 5 years ago, I have been asking for something I can have that was his. It didn't matter what it was, I just wanted something. So my grandmother gave me a pearl necklace and earings that my grandpa bought when he was stationed in Okinawa. They are over 50 years old. I plan on wearing them on the day of the wedding, but I heard from somebody that you are not supposed to wear pearls on your wedding day. Is that ture? do you think I should still wear them?

My gma passed away in November and I plan on wearing her pearls on my wedding day. I don't think it's bad or anything. I'd wear them proudly if I were you. It's what I plan to do.

I've only heard the exact opposite; that they are good luck. Wear them!

There are some stupid superstitions - "pearls are for tears" etc. Opal is bad luck unless its your birthstone. Crazy and I'm sure from seeing lots of bridal photos, almost 90% of brides wear pearls. Ignore the stupid superstitions and wear your pearls!

I think it would be a really sentimental way for you to have your something old, and honor your grandfather at the same time. I don't believe in superstitious things anyways, just go for it.

One part of the superstition is that pearls are bad luck only if they are a gift, and to give the giver even a quarter to thwart the bad luck. Depends if you believe in this superstitution or not. I don't believe it, although I did an an opal ring once and lost it within a day of owning..laugh.

Yeah i've heard that a bride wearing pearls is bad luck in the fertility area... Depends on what traditions you want to follow... if you aren't superstitious they sound like a Lovely, sentimental gift and i would wear them in a heartbeat if I were you...

I think that they are a wonderful gift and i can bet that your grandmaother would feel honored if you wore them on your special day. Also, i think if she was superstitious she'd have chared you a quarter or advised against wearing them for your wedding. Smiley tongue

    I say wear them proudly!

My dress has tiny pearls on it, so I'll be wearing pearl earrings and bracelet (no neclace since it's a halter top). Wear whatever you like it's your day! Smiley smile

I think that's crazy. I have never heard of that before, and honestly, I thought it was pretty standard to wear pearls. I most likely will be... I think they are timeless and beautiful---and even more so because they have sentimental value to you.
