Peonies in April??

Sarah , on February 28, 2012 at 1:53 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

Hi!

I am completely obsessed with Peonies and I definitely want to have them for my bouqet and hopefully my BM's bouqets -- but the problem is I hear that they aren't in bloom for very long and that means they can be expensive!! Does anyone know what actually the season is for peonies?? I'm getting married in NJ (if that makes a difference?.. i'm just starting to look into flowers and am pretty clueless! haha)

My wedding is April 19! Any ideas??? Thanks in advance

Smiley smile

I had peonies in my May wedding, and they weren't very expensive. Talk with your florist.

My sister in law loves peonies and we had them at their April 5th wedding in Delaware. I don't know how much it cost, but I know they didn't exactly have an arm and a leg to put out there on expenses. It can be done though Smiley smile Best of luck.

I am getting married April 1st and wanted them as well and was told they are out of season and quite expensive. I am going with Ranaculous instead as they have that same "petal-y" look

I would talk to your florist and maybe have a back-up flower in case the growing season ends earlier due to high temps and they become hard to get or very expensive.

Garden roses look very similar to peonies. The pic in my avatar is of garden roses. They have that fluffy look.

The seasons for Peonies- is may, possibly into June. As suggested above there are some great 'peony look-alikes' like English Roses or Ranunculus...

Peony season is in May through EARLY June! if you buy out of season, expect it to be VERY expensive. Ranunculus are a good substitute but they are a lot smaller compared to peonies.

They should be available in NJ in April but every season is different by as much as a coule of weeks. They are definitely avaiable from Holland but, that would be more expensive. i suggest you have a back up plan. You can still use them in YOUR bouquet even if they come from Holland and use something else in the bridal party. Also, a great back-up flower would be David Austin roses which, when wide open, have a simillar look. You can google them to see what they look like:-)
