Peony bouquet prices

Marissa, on September 4, 2013 at 4:00 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

My florist just quoted my all white peony bouquet at $275 for 15 stems. She said peonies are basically out of season by May (my wedding month). But I was under the impression that May was a good month for these flowers. Maybe I'm wrong..

Any peony brides out there: what did you pay for your bouquet? What time of year?

Thanks!

May 3 bride here and I asked for the same. She did say they are expensive in general, but didn't specify it was because it was out of season. I said I'd be happy with just one or two in the bridesmaids bouquets and the price was still well within reason.

Try English Tea Roses....those are supposed to be similar in volume and coloring.

My mother is a floritst and she said that's outrageous even to her. but i'll tell ya something you can do...wait until you find a store like hobby lobby that has their "naturals" silk flowers on sale...you can actually add those with the real flowers and no one will be able to tell. we are putting fake calla lillies in with mine. we made a mock one of real flowers and the callas that "look real"....unless i put my hand to it, it looked completely real.

I wanted peonies but the prices were way too high. One centerpieces for our tables would have been almost $400. Granted I'm going with large centerpieces but because they are so delicate I felt like I needed a lot of them to get the look I wanted. I went with hydrangea's and roses instead.

I knew peonies were expensive, and I almost expected to pay more than that. But after doing some research, that price seems pretty steep now. But this is my special day so I guess I'll just suck it up lol

I'm doing pink and white hydrangeas from Hobby Lobby for the bridesmaids bouquets and all the boutenieres. That will only cost around $150 for 7 bouq. and 12 bouts. And for my centerpieces we're doing wine bottles. So the only real flowers I have to buy are for my own bouquet.

One of my bridesmaids family owns a flower shop and said that garden roses are very similar to peonies and are available all year round and are much cheaper. I know they're not EXACTLY the same, but you should google pics, they are very similar and may give you the look you're going for! I wanted peonies too, but realized early on it wasn't going to happen.

$275 is fair. Yes, there are roses that are similar in shape to peonies, but our peony brides want peonies, peonies, peonies.

Just looked at the roses and they are beautiful! I might see how much they run. If it's a big enough difference, I might change. I just really love peonies..

No way. I'm getting my peonies from a wholesaler for like 30 bucks for my bouquet. That sounds CRAZY.

I also wanted peonies, but they were expensive for an August wedding. I was quoted $16 a stem. I got some garden roses and english tea roses (look very similar to peonies) along with other roses, fresia and the like for my bouquet.

I am getting peonies at $10 a stem for May 25th. Everything I have read says the peony season is about mid-May through mid-June. Any out of season peonies are hard to get at a reasonable price and usually aren't as full.

That's what I thought too, Abby. My wedding is May 16 so I thought that was perfect timing for peonies. I'm just going to go around and get some more quotes and hope I can find something cheaper!
