Period due on honeymoon

Amanda, on April 5, 2017 at 1:34 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 25

My periods have been fairly consistent throughout the past year and I checked my period calendar on my cell phone...apparently it's due on my honeymoon. :'( My wedding is May 6th. My OBGYN appointment is this upcoming Monday to start birth control. I plan on doing the pills. It will be my first time ever doing birth control. Will I be able to skip my period for next month if I start the birth control next week? I'm so bummed. Our honeymoon is 10 days, but I'll be on my period for at least 5 of those days. :'( Any advice is appreciated. Feeling super stressed over this.

Everyone is different. You may skip your period entirely, you may have spotting, or it might be a regular period.

God the sex ed in this country is terrible.

Yes, you can skip it with pills. Talk to your doctor about this when you go.

Edit: I forget how close May is. Jesus, is it really next month? With one month before...I really don't know. Talk to your Dr.

This sounds like a question for your OBGYN. In general though, it takes about 3 months for your body to acclimate to the pill. You're supposed to use additional protection ie. condoms for that time your body is adjusting. I really doubt your body will be used to it enough to skip a period next month. But you might end up skipping your period anyways as your body adjusts to the hormones.

Just make sure you use extra protection if you don't want to conceive anytime soon!

You should be able to skip it. I'll be on my period as well for a portion. Our honeymoon is 15 days long. I don't really see it as a big deal except I can't go see the monkeys because I'll get attacked. Lol!

I just had my OB appt this morning for the same reason. I'm not going on the pill, but it's the same concept with what I'll be using - basically you skip your period by not taking the 4th week of pills (which are just placebo) and starting the new pack immediately. You may still have breakthrough bleeding, spotting, or nothing at all, but it's better than a full on period!

    Good luck!

It would have been better to start BC a little sooner to let your body adjust to it, just in case of any spotting, which is possible with new pills(especially if its not the right one for you) however, you can definitely use BC to skip periods.. talk to your OBGYN about your concerns and explain the situation...make sure the date of your first scheduled period wont interfere with your honeymoon or plan to skip the sugar pills and go to a new pack. (FYI your period wont come until a few days into the sugar/placebo pills)

personally I do a 3 month cycle because I hate having a period, and never have break through bleeding unless I miss my pill several days in a row

You can stop your period from coming by skipping the placebo pills (last 7 pills the week your period is due) and immediately start a new pack. You should talk to your doctor about this first though. Once you start the pill, the schedule of your cycle may change anyway and it's possible you won't be on during your honeymoon.

Your doctor is the best one to discuss this with. The first month may be difficult to skip.

Usually you wait until your next period is over to start a cycle of BC pills. Not sure what your cycle is now, but you may or may not be able to start them before your wedding. I take seasonique, which changes your cycle from 28 to 84 days. It works for me, but not everyone likes it.

You're getting married - does it really matter if you have your period on your honeymoon? I know some women have a horrendous time, but if that's not you, don't let it bother you!

You'll want to ask your doctor at your appointment if he or she recommends skipping your first period after starting the pill. It's possible to skip periods, but your doctor will give the best advice as to whether it's a good idea to do so so soon after starting the pill.

Are you set to get your period next week? You typically are instructed to start taking the pill the first Sunday after you get your next period. If you get your next period prior to this coming Sunday before your appointment, you can possibly ask about starting your pill on a different day of the week so you don't have to wait until your May period, but again, follow your doctor's advice.

I'm getting married on the same date as you! I've been on the pill for over a decade and can start my next pack of pills immediately after the first pack is finished and I can skip my period (which is what I'll probably be doing in this case) but I'm not sure how YOUR body will react to new medication. I actually took 4 different BC pills to find one that worked right for me so definitely speaking with your OBGYN is a MUST.

I mean you'd have to ask your doctor.. I understand periods are horrible for some people but if it's not for you I wouldn't worry about it. You'll still basically be able to do everything you would do if you weren't on your period.. If it's sex you're worried about tell FH to man up and get over it lol

My appointment is April 10th. My next period is supposed to start April 19th.

The wedding is May 6th and the honeymoon is May 8th-May 18th.

My period in May is due May 15th. Thankfully it's at the end of the honeymoon and I'll still get a full week without it.

I'm a virgin bride, so starting birth control and everything is very new to me.

If your periods aren't horrible now, personally I'd just wait until after the honeymoon to start BC and have my period on my honeymoon. You are still able to have sex on your period, but I wouldn't want to be skipping pills on the first pack.

Talk to your OBGYN about your concerns and options about birth control. One month is not much time for your body to adjust and you may end up on your period. You may also end up with some nasty side effects like acne, mood changes and weight gain.

But really, is being on your period for your honeymoon the end of the world? I should start my period the day of my wedding and will be on it most of my honeymoon. No big deal, i'm a woman, it happens.

Talk to your doctor. Mine helped me realize I was going to have my period on my wedding day and instructed me on how to best skip it.

OP, you really need to talk out the specifics with your Obgyn. Since you're starting BC so close to your wedding, she may advise you to use conventional birth control (condoms) for a bit until the BC has time to take effect.

I agree, having a period on the honeymoon isn't the end of the world. My periods tend to be extremely painful -- bad cramping for several days. That's what I was most worried about.

I appreciate all of the advice! I wanted some input before going into the appointment. So I'm not totally disappointed. Haha.

I wouldn't start the pill so close to your wedding date unless you absolutely have to. It took me a few different types of pills find one that worked well for me. I had quite a few side effect - headaches, weight gain, spotting. Not something I would want to deal with right before my wedding.

There are tons of methods for BC also. I have the depo shot. No period for 6 months! It's amazing. I was suppose to be on my period for the honeymoon also and so I got the shot to prevent that. Very satisfied with it.
