Period on my honeymoon!!?

OliviaLauren, on March 14, 2016 at 1:27 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 31

Alright guys, this is my first time posting but I need your help! I'm going to start my period on my honeymoon which would be totally fine for a normal person but I have endometriosis so it's super DUPER painful. (like stay in bed for 2 days painful)

Any suggestions? My wedding is in a month.

I can't do birth control because I'm not into that hormonal craziness (it made me paranoid).

This will also be my first time having sex so does that change things? do you think my period would change because of it. We'll be on a cruise and we can't move the date!

Talk to a doctor about this if your endometriosis is as bad as it is. They should also be the ones advicing you about the sex impact. From personal experience, sex changed nothing in my cycle and I would not have sex on/near the time of my month. Even if you were fine with taking birth control it is too close to the date to do much help.

Do your periods usually last very long? Is it something that will be over before the cruise is over? Maybe you could work through it by taking some pain medication, and then waiting til your period is done to enjoy your honeymoon? I know it's not ideal, but I'm sure your husband (which he will be on your honeymoon) will totally understand! Praying for you! Maybe it will start late or early, and you'll get it over with before or after the honeymoon!

Definitely a concern to be discussed with a doctor but if it was me, I'd try a the bc shot IF my doctor thought it may help and wouldn't hurt. best of luck

Your period shouldn't affect sex but if you are in a lot of pain when you are on your period it might not be very enjoyable but the first time can hurt a bit all by itself. I think you should think about if you are comfortable being on your period for the first time you have sex and if not possibly talk to your doctor about a low hormone birth control to see if that could help.

Best of luck! I hope you figure something out so you can still enjoy your honey moon.

I have endometriosis as well and sex didn't impact my periods at all. As for the pain and such ask your doctor for medicine? Mine has me on OxyContin because I cannot function when I am on my period. I'm sorry it is occurring during your honeymoon Smiley sad

Definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns. I have no idea what he or she would recommend, but perhaps the minimum result would be that he or she could prescribe you with something for the pain so you can at least enjoy your trip. I am sorry this is happening!

I would definitely talk to your doctor. My MOH has very bad endo and during her period/flare ups sex is painful. She has similar periods to you where she is in bed for days. The best thing would be to talk to a doctor about managing the pain, bring a heating pad or whatever gives you relief and try not to stress about it. I don't know of any other way to change when it comes besides the pill.

I've read up on this quite a bit to try to figure out ways to ease the horrible pain. What has been helping me a bit is avoiding caffeine and soy as much as possible (both mimic estrogen in your body) and eating mainly organic, especially with meat and dairy (again, all about avoiding any added hormones). Excess estrogen seems to be a main cause of endo, so anything you can do to limit that might help. I was in complete agony every month and all I wanted was to make it through my period without crying. Since I made those changes, I haven't been brought to tears from the pain in either of my last two cycles. I still have cramps and things aren't perfect, but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be.

You're close to being too late to do anything. You need to get to a doctor like TODAY and see about a few hormonal pills to delay ovulation. Ovulation determines when your period starts, and occurs roughly 12-14 days before your period. If you delay ovulation, you delay your period, but after you've ovulated, your period is going to come, hormonal pills or none, the pills may just turn it into breakthrough bleeding until you stop them.

Definitely talk to a doctor, there's nothing else you can do to prevent/change your period, no "home remedies" for that sort of thing are going to work.

I've also found that when I'm stressed, my period tends to come a little earlier. Maybe all the wedding stress will trigger it before the wedding? I'd definitely talk to your gynecologist about all this as she (or he) will be able to help you come up with the best option.

I have endo and periods used to be very painful. Taking birth control actually helped mine be lighter, less painful and completely manageable. I took Ortho Tri Cyclen for years because of that!!! Good luck!

    Thanks guys Smiley smile

9I went to my doctor last week and he was kind of a jerk and told me to take naproxen (aleve) even though I told him I took it how he prescbried and all it did was give me a stomach ache on top of everything else. So I'm going to get a second opinion! I have another period in between this one so I have a tiny bit of time.

Hormonal birth control has already done a ton of damage to my body so I'll just push through if I have to. I'll let you guys know if I find an amazing thing that works haha

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, that sucks! And I'm sorry your doctor was such a jerk!

It is quite possible that it's too close to the wedding to something by then. However going forward you may want to look for doctors who specialize in NaPro Technology if you're looking for help that doesn't involve hormonal birth control.

Good luck with whatever you decide and have a wonderful time with your new husband!

You should really see another doctor about endometriosis because sometimes hormones can help keep it pain and bleeding under control. Not all birth control is the same, some women do well with the shot, IUD, nexplanon, ect...

Hey I feel your pain my cycle is just like yours, I can't function when I'm on it. I did the birth control for several years and it helped a tremendous deal. I was able to go about my daily routine and helped with the pain but I also stopped the pills because the hormones were just messing with my body. So I totally respect your choice to not do the pills. I also take Naproxen but that barely does anything I have to take several for it to give me some relief.

What I started doing was using Soy Milk to naturally help my body because of the hormones in it. I also researched alot because I felt so helpless and another things that helps is exercise. It sounds so simple and like it won't do anything but I have experienced the slight changes. When I routinely exercise at the gym my pain is different the next time I get my period or its lessened and it does alter when you get your period. I am very irregular but exercising helped with that. In my research I found that exercise is a great way to help regulate the craze of our severe and painful periods. I don't exercise when I get it the first couple of days because sometimes I'm too out of it but when I'm not on it or a little stronger I do. I hope this helps a little. Praying for you girly!

Just wondering, are you taking your honeymoon right after your wedding? If so, how will you have a period in between now and then?
