Period on wedding day!!

Jenna, on December 11, 2016 at 10:28 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 33

Hi everyone!! I am getting married May 6, 2017. I am worried that I may get my period on my wedding day or during the honeymoon. I used to get my period on the 15th of every month for years! Now all of a sudden the last 3 months I have been getting it every 28 days on the dot. I calculated it for May and if it keeps going this way I will get it the day before my wedding. I CANNOT have this happen. Any suggestions on what to do? I am not currently on birth control because its always made me gain weight in the past. Not sure if I should get in it now to try and delay my period or not?

Yes I would talk to your doctor, if you're wanting to start birth control it usually takes about 3 months to regulate so I would do it sooner rather than later.

I agree, talk to your doctor. I actually just spoke to my doctor as I have PCOS and my period isn't regular. He told me that there's a progesterone only pill that people can take that ensures they won't get their period. But once again, talk to your doctor because everyone is different and that may not be an option for you.

You could get pregnant...haha, just kidding obviously. I would talk to your doctor!

ETA- I used to keep taking my birth control pills through the month (skip the sugar pills and start the next month right away) when I didn't want my period. Not sure if that's recommended or not, but it worked.

Definitely talk to your doctor. I just got on birth control and have lost 10 pounds (purposely), so not all of them will cause it! You and your doctor just need to find what works for you.

I agree with everyone else, talk to your doctor, doctors are the experts and will get you on a healthy, effective path.

Fun fact: the 29th of each month is when I start... why I didn't think of that when we set our date, I don't know :/ ...sigh.

Talk to you doctor ASAP, and don't listen when you get the inevitable post here that swears some tea helps someone skip their period or delay it or induce it or whatever hogwash they say this time. It's just that: bs.

If you talk to your doctor and do not plan on continuing birth control long after the wedding I would suggest nuvaring! You can skip the off week and continue with a new ring. Easy to take out, easy to put in Smiley smile

Hey Date twin! Im nervous as well about mine but i think if you check in with your gyno they might be able to help with birth control. I would go sooner than later because your body will need time to adjust.

Do you get sever cramps? If not why not just wear a tampon? I don't see the issue.

I agree that you should talk to your doctor. Not all birth controls will make you gain weight, and it really depends on the medication and the person's body. I started birth control due to irregular periods and I've lost 30 pounds since I started it last November. So I would talk with your doctor about your concerns about weight gain and see what options you have. Also, depending on what your period looks like it honestly wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I know that if I were supposed to have my period on my wedding day, I'd just make sure to take some pain medication and plan out a few specific bathroom trips.

You can talk to your doctor for sure, but I just went off my birth control for the first time in five years and I could have my period for the wedding day. I'm not sweating it as I can just put a tampon in and move on with the day. Sure it won't be ideal but it's not like FH or I haven't had period sex before. We're both mature enough to get that it's how life works and move on.

No one here can tell you what will help you skip a period. If you are really that concerned, you would need to talk to your doctor. But you can't alter Mother Nature. If you're going to get your period, you're going to have to deal with it, as we all have been for the past several years. Taking birth control to skip a period is like taking Tylenol for nausea. It's probably not going to work.

You can talk to your doctor, OR

You could just have your period and deal with it. Unless you have super heavy periods (since they are so regularly, it isn't as likely) or have debilitating cramps, it isn't the end of the world.

There is no way to delay or adjust your cycle without chemical intervention (birth control!). Talk to your doctor, or "go with the flow".
