Period on wedding day.

Sydney, on May 1, 2022 at 8:33 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5
Well I know this may sound a little silly but it just crossed my mind today and it’s really a huge fear of mine. I have irregular cycles for the most part as I have already been two months without my cycle lol until today but I’m so worried about starting my period around my wedding day. I’m not sure what to do and I’m terrified! Any suggestions?

Birth control would regulate when you have your menstrual cycle (or whether you want to have one at all).

Cece is correct, birth control is an option to regulate the cycle and help you skip it, but if you don't want to be on permanent birth control, there is a medication your doctor can prescribe that essentially stops it or pushes your period back a few days, which might be just long enough to have your wedding day without it. (Although not so good if you plan to immediately leave on your honeymoon!)

Of course, it might just work out for you anyway - I was supposed to be towards the middle of my period for our wedding day, but maybe stress, maybe the angels (lol) made it finish a bit early! I was super paranoid that it would still be in play, so I bought so many products - I personally find disposable discs make me feel least like I have a period, so I had those (The brand I've used in the past have been called soft discs, but there are other brands - flex is another, and there are reusable ones on the market as well - I just find that shape more comfortable than a cup) and I also planned to use nude period underwear as a backup, in case the situation got heavy and I couldn't easily get to a bathroom, but nothing like that ended up happening in my case.

I totally feel you! I have irregular cycles too and I’m on BC. Sometimes I get it🤷🏻‍♀️ Sometimes I don’t. Sometimes it’s only a day. Sometimes it’s 4. You never really know and I’ve had the same worry

Talk to your gyno. She prescribed my oral birth control and allows me to skip the placebo so I don't get my period. Of course, this won't work for everyone. But, it works for me. I've never had a pregnancy scare and also only have my periods when it is convenient for me (a few times a year). Win-win.

This is also weirdly one of my irrational fears with my wedding especially because the way it's looking is that it will be that week (calculating), of course it could come early which would be most ideal. But I think more than anything I'd hate to have it the week after on a honeymoon LOL
