@Nancy - You're right, they don't know the situation but the advice is correct. If it's a timing thing, they should be able to figure that out on their own. If it's a medical thing as you're suggesting, they need to go speak to a medical professional. That's the adult thing to do.

Op I felt your pain. I have horrible periods. The symptoms can be almost crippling at times. Also, I frequent this site and rarely see this post. It's a legitimate worry for some, not all. Hang in there, your wedding will be beautiful period or no period.

I just started using a diva cup ... I love it and you can wear it for 8-10 hours and not have to worry about leakage or anything

Sometimes my dysmenorrhea is so bad I have to call out of work. So for those who can't understand why this can be a problem for some women, there's an example.

According to the calendar mine should be in full swing on the day of our wedding. I didn't consider it when scheduling because it's not an issue just an inconvenience.

I am worried if I do since my bc is coming to an end. I have the arm implant. Mine aren't that great when they do come. But be prepared even if you don't think it's supposed to come. You never know. Always have a tampon and pad with you and some pain killers. Good luck and congratulations!

If people are having crippling periods, they should go see a doctor about them. Not be on WW asking what to do if you get your period on your wedding day.

For the record, I had crippling periods all through high school. Bed ridden, vomiting, crazy heavy bleeding, water retention, the whole nine yards. Eventually, I went to my doctor and she was able to get me on medication to make my periods manageable.

I feel for you OP but as on PPs..... can't control mother nature. I no longer have to worry about having a period ( thankfully or unfortunately for what that means is an individual opinion) but this would be one day I WOULD not want to be in pain or having my period. I just am PRAYING I don't get a migraine!!

I am also team Mirena!! I don't get my period so I'm dodging this bullet! I definitely recommend it if your insurance will cover it.

Ultimately, internet strangers can't help you avoid your period. If your date isn't set yet, try to calculate your cycle and plan around it. If you're irregular or your date is already set, assume that you will have your period. Have midol or advil or whatever works best for you on hand and look into trying a menstrual cup since they provide longer hours of protection. Thinx are supposed to be good too.

If your periods are truly horrendous, talk to your doctor.

I was on day 3 on my wedding day. It certainly wasn't the end of the world.

I certainly don't want to be running to the bathroom every 2 hours to change my tampon in a giant dress, so you bet I will be controlling that with BC.

I had to go off of it last month, but plan on going back on in mid-October (whenever I get my P that month) and that will push it back so I will get P the week after my wedding instead of that week!

(my regular cycle is longer than 28 days / BC cycle, that's why it (P tracker app) says I'm supposed to get it on my wedding day, but once I'm back on BC, it'll change) Huzzah.

@thewrightgirl "red wings" is a joke term for the badge you get when you have sex with someone who's on their period, but with your mouth

I started altering my cycle, very slowly 6 months ago, so that I won't be on my period on my wedding or honeymoon. If I did it right my most fertile days will be during the honeymoon and I tend to feel the prettiest then. While we want to have a family, we aren't gonna stress about it, but no way was I going to be crampy on the wedding day or honeymoon.

I'm on the pill so I'm going to mess with the placebo week if I have to. I'll just have my period a week early if need be. I'm not concerned about the wedding itself but I definitely don't want to be on my period for the honeymoon so that's when I'll do my tweaking.

I am not able to swim when I am on my period, no. I never have. Which is my biggest concern because we r going to the beach on our honeymoon! I think the birth control is a valid argument and I know it does work to skip or regulate, as I took it as a teen because of how horrible my periods were. But, and it's a big but, I want to get pregnant. Starting a family is a big goal for us and it won't be easy. That's why I am asking what my best options may be regarding swimming. Any advice?

Oh yes, if that comes on my wedding day In I'm big trouble! I'm currently dealing with issues concerning that, I'd literally have to change the date. But... Hopefully I can get things taken care of before the wedding so I don't have to worry about it.
