Pet friendly honeymoon

bellamae, on March 8, 2016 at 2:32 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 23

FH and I have been starting to talk about where we would like to go for our honeymoon. I mentioned some beach resort destinations and he shot them down because we really hate leaving our dog behind and most of them aren't pet friendly. She's a rescue and ever since we got her she's had pretty bad separation anxiety. It's really hard for us to leave her. Anyone know of any dog friendly honeymoon spots?

You could look for a pet friendly vacation rental. I know they have a bunch on like the gulf/panhandle of FL (Destin, Panama City, St. George Island). We took our dogs to the beach around there all the time!

I was gonna suggest bring fido! But some of their suggestions are out dated, so watch for that

Airbnb has an option to search for petfriendly locations. So do a number of hotel booking sites- hotels.com, etc. Bring fide I prefer for finding dog parks, petfriendly restaurants, etc.

Something like Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach/Folly Beach, maybe Maine?

You could try renting an Airbnb that allows pets. A friend of mine is planning on renting a cabin in Pigeon Forge, TN and she is taking her dog on their family vacation.

VRBO.com is good too and you can search pet friendly. There's this really cool place in North Conway NH called the adventure suites and they're pet friendly. Adventuresuites.com so cool!

My vet goes to the Outer Banks every year for exactly this reason! I think I've heard of a few pet-friendly resorts in Vermont too, but I wouldn't take that to the bank.

Just know flying is really hard on pets if you don't have them in the cabin with you.

San Fransisco is a hugely dog friendly city - you could find an airbnb there that allows pets (so much cheaper than hotels) and they allow dogs so many places in that city.

Thank you all so much!! I've been checking out bringfido.com and there are a few nice options in Key West. We're located in Orlando and we wouldn't want to fly with her. I'm going to look into the outer banks, too!

W hotels are pet friendly as are most Las Vegas hotels! A lot of places won't let you leave your pet unattended in the room, so you may want to consider that too. We take our rescue pup to Dr. Boyd's Pet resort when we go out of town. Is there something similar near you? We're making our honeymoon 7 days instead of 9 because we don't want to be away from our fur baby that long!

All the W hotels and many of the Kimpton hotels are. We took Sophie to Washington DC a few years ago, and they had a special "Santa Paws" part for the dog guests!

For the outerbanks, look up Hatteras Realty. They are located in Avon which is South off the mainland. Check out Mariah. It's my parents rental and its dog friendly on the sound with a dock.

How about leaving her with family or a friend. I would hate her destroying stuff at an air bnb and the home owner not allowing pets anymore due to your dog's behavior .

Or perhaps a doggie day care that does overnights ?

We are renting a cabin in Virginia for three nights and our pets would be allowed for a small additional fee if we wanted them to come with us...although the car ride is around 5 hours from where we live. Luckily, my dog and kitten don't have separation anxiety. My mom and sister are staying at our house while FH and I go on our honeymoon so it works because my mom misses my dog so much since I've moved out that she always says she's going to steal her back (jokingly.)

We found an awesome sitter on www.dogvacay.com. It's so nice to be able to travel and not have to worry about your pup!
