Petal Aisles...

Shana, on February 16, 2012 at 5:39 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

So I was brainstorming and came across the idea of having rose petals as a runner. Has any of you ladies done this or thinking of doing this? Whats your thoughts on this...? I dont really like when its spread out. I'd like it thick like the first picture below..I was thinking of having a white rose petal runner and the flower girl toss red rose petals down as she walks.....opinions? BE HARSH if necessary! Smiley winking I can take it! Smiley smile

If you want it thick, it will be hella expensive. I was going to make runners for each side of my aisle. Take tulle, and hot glue each silk petal to the tulle till its as fluffy as you want. Way cheaper. Less mess and won't stain.

Ps LOVE the white with red sprinkled idea

It's expensive, and if you have a long train on your dress it's not practical, because your dress will drag them with you as you walk if they are loose so you would need a lot of them or it will look patchy after all the walking. I've seen ones where they were all sewed together, but that's a lot of work. It is beautiful, and a good idea for outdoor weddings, since they are biodegradable. The main problem is really just the cost. Especially if you want them that thick. If you have the money than go for it!

It is going to require a lot of petals and if that is the look you want, I would suggest buying petals a little at a time now and store them because you have a year and a half to purchase enough of them. Also think about clean up, it's going to take some time to clean all of those petals up. UNLESS, you buy a white fabric runner and glue them down, no mess you can just roll it up after the wedding.

It is going to cost a fortune, but I do love petals. You don't have to do THAT many of them!

When you say a fortune...how much do you think it would run? $100? 300? 500?

I got mine off eBay as well. Only complaint was they were all bulked together and it was such a pain having to spread them allllll apart. Like, they were vacuum sealed to each other lol

I am actually doing what someone else mentioned. I have a tulle runner that I glued white silk petals to and my flower girl will throw colored petals on top of it. I agree with the other ladies...if you have that many flowers that aren't glued down, they will be swept away by your train. If you really like the idea and can't live without it, you can buy silk petals in bulk.

When I first told my florist about my aisle design she sent me to this website. They offer rug runner of silk rose petals. No sure what their prices are but it may be what you are looking for.

Weddingbee has a lot of DIY tips on petal aisle runners. I think if you bought the white one at AC Moore or Michaels and then glued the white petals to it, it would look good. Since you want it covered you could probably use the spray adhesive and just drop handfuls of petals onto it?!

I love the look! However, doing real petals would be outrageously priced. I was watching some wedding show, and a celebrity had them with a cost of $10K.

As far as going silk, I agree with Kimberly. I would start buying them now.

Shana since your wedding is a year out if it is something you really really want get them by saving. Open a saving account and start throwing a few extra bucks in it a month. Pack your lunches and no coffee runs. I paid for my second gown by strengthing out my mani/pedi appts. Just an idea.

I'm a little worried about wind...but I guess not enough to do anything about it. I've got a short aisle, and its somewhat protected from wind.
