Philadelphia Area Catering at $50 per person?

Maria, on July 20, 2016 at 10:27 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi there! Looking for a great caterer for a sit down dinner, with passed hors d'oeuvres, a stationery cheese and vegetable display and our wedding cake. Wanted to spend about $50 per person and planning on having about 100-125 people. We will be providing the alcohol. Is this possible? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Cheapest I found was $90 with alcohol included, no cake.

ETA: that worked with venues I was interested in.

You'll probably have to look out Lancaster, Allentown area maybe? Delaware county/Philly area I looked I found nothing under $130 with alcohol and no cake

Even in the Lancaster area, you'll probably find about $60-75 a person, unless you go super down-home/country style and book an Amish-style caterer. But those types of caterers usually don't do passed hors d'oeuvres.

Maybe try some mom & pop type restaurant that might be willing to work with you?

I should add that my venue isn't technically Philly. It's Bryn Mawr.

What about South Jersey? Close enough to Philly?

I'm not sure of prices, but Maggiano's might be worth a try. The one in King of Prussia (technically not Philly), might be cheaper than the one downtown. As someone else suggested, maybe try a restaurant.

Thanks for the info everyone! Sarah, who is your caterer? Do you know if they offer food without the alcohol? I will be providing that...already have the venue, too...

That's tough. Try Emily's Cafe. But keep in mind that the food is only a third of the deal; you still need staffing and tableware. Even 10 years ago, when I was doing this, the breakdown ran 50-60 for food, and at least 15. for tableware. Plus tax. Plus staffing.

Maybe think about an afternoon cocktail party?

You're also talking about prime season, which means that there will be no deals to be had.

Williamson's in Willow Grove. Food is really really good. They are very responsive. And yes, you can remove the alcohol to drop the per person price down. At least you could in Feb when I booked.

I live in Philadelphia. But we looked at venues in South Jersey, my FH is from there and I will be moving there shortly. My PP is about $75 including seated dinner, passed hors d'oeuvres, open bar, and tables/place setting included. Though, we have to get our cake. We're doing a Saturday night wedding for about 180 to 200 guests. We were a few venues with in our price range but $50 may be asking for too much.

Gretchen, wondering if you’d share your venue? That’s about the price range I’m looking to be in. Thanks!
