Photo editing

Myrtle F. , on May 7, 2017 at 10:14 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

Hi there)

My name is Myrtle and I'm getting married this autumn. We decided to invest more money into impressions and emotions, so we thought about what we could do ourselves. And the idea was photography. So, we'd like to hire a photographer but ask him/her not to process pictures. We can do it instead. I'm an amateur, I use Luminar https://macphun.com/luminar for editing so I hope I'm able to do that. What do you think? Is there anybody who's tried doing editing without professionals? I convince myself that even if I fail, I can address to a specialist later, right?

Could you please tell me if I'm right or wrong?

I recommend letting the photographer do their job. So your pictures look good the first time.

Thanks. Do you think we won't save much on this service?

Most photographers WANT to do their own editing. If I were a photographer, would think it would almost me an insult to have an armature edit my work, because their name is on the work, but not really their finished product. Just let the photographer do it. Save money elsewhere.

It's highly doubtful a photographer would release their images to you completely unedited without any credit. Your major vendors shouldn't be things you do yourself. Meaning food, alcohol, photographer, and dj should all be done by professionals.

If you did find a photographer who would do this, I doubt they're a seasoned professional. They'd most likely be an amateur, and an amateur editing amateur photos is not going to come out like you want.

Let the photographer do their thing. You only get one shot at it, and don't want to be left with crap. Also, I don't think any professional photographer would release images for you, or anyone else to edit. Photography is one thing you don't want to go cheap on.

We'd like to save it elsewhere but this aspect sounds the most sound. It can be done later while saving on dress is a mistake that cannot be improved.

It looks there not even a chance to find a photographer who would agree to our offer to try...

True, I'm advertising my amateur editing skills Smiley winking

So did you come here asking for advice or validation for your bad idea? Or to advertise? Because it sounds like you're looking for the second option, and the third isn't allowed.

No good pro photographer is going to let you alter/edit their work. It's their name and reputation on the line. Move on to the next idea.

Please leave this for the professionals. A real professional photographer will never give you raw photos for you to edit, anyway. If you want to edit the photos yourselves, then you should take them yourselves.

I am a professionally trained graphic designer with a BA who has worked as a photo editor for a wedding photography company for years. We use extensive software and tools to edit photos, and I went through 4 years of schooling and $80,000 to learn how to use them. So, no.

Our office would laugh so hard if we had gotten a request like this.

Usually photo editing is part of their service. It's also part of their art. It's insulting to a photographer to say the least.

Say I'm a baker. You asked me for an apple pie. I give you half peeled apples, sugar, and a crust. That isn't why you hired me. You hired me for a finished product, one that you can enjoy. It's the same thing for photography. You are hiring your photographer for a finished product, that you will enjoy for years and years to come. I never send out unfinished work

I have a section in my contract about this. I'm sure many/most photographers do, as well.

Photo editing can take forever- If you insist- I love Lightroom since you can set templates for lighting and apply to multiple pictures--- but going through this with 100s of pics could be time consuming- you may find there isn't much of a cost difference anyway- a pro photographer shouldn't need to do much!

You could get an amateur. They might be willing to take this deal.

Editing your own images won't save you money- that's always included in the package- it's not an extra charge. If you'd like to save money on photos you could hire a photog per hour...all though that may be stressful

My photographer's price included editing. Most (professional and established) photographer's will not want someone else editing their pictures because if it is done poorly it could prevent people from using them in the future. It just might not be good for their business. Just let them do their job and cut other things!

I don't think you're going to find anyone who will even allow you to edit their photos. My opinion, find something else to cut. This isn't one of those things that you want to DIY

Yep- you'll have a hard time finding a photog that releases raw files. Save money elsewhere.. photography isn't something you want to skimp on.

No self respecting photographer who has a clue what they're doing and knows how the business operates would do that. That doesn't mean there aren't camera owners who would. But it's not a palatable request for a pro. You are asking to alter their brand. It's a short sighted and unrealistic plan. Let the pro do the work.
