Photobooth for Wedding

Olga, on May 23, 2021 at 2:18 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 16
I was wondering if making a photobooth will be worth it? I’ve rarely been at places where they have them and not many use them but then again we won’t have a camera it will just be taken on phones. Wondering if it’s worth the hassle or not.

I've seen three kinds of photo booths, and they all seemed to be used plenty:

    1) homemade back drop and a table with a little smart phone tri-pod. The tri-pod could be plugged into a phone, and there was a little clicker that came with it to take the photo. It worked well until the clicker was lost or broken or something.
    2) homemade back drop with an instant camera provided. I like this one because I love having the little Polaroid photos.
    3) professional photo booth, usually provided by the DJ. They always get used because they're easy to use, come with lots of props, and are very attention grabbing.

Personal preference/know your crowd item. My fiancé and I love having photos to remember special moments, as does my family. I know they’ll be hitting up the photo booth all night as we’ve done make your own ones at family gatherings before.

    Hello Olga.
I agree with the previous poster: this is a know your crowd situation.

However, if you and your partner allow your guests to use their smartphone/pad at your reception, a photobooth won't be worth it, in my humble opinion (personal devices are able to do what a photobooth does) ... but it will if you're hosting an unplugged reception.

For the second one (poloroid) did people use the camera selfie style, or did someone else take photos for people? Just wondering about the logistics/ease of use.

I've been to 2 weddings with photo booths and tons of guests used them and even went up 2 to 3 different times. It's also a great idea for wedding favors, people get the photo booth instead of something they most likely will leave behind. But if it's not in your budget then don't worry about it.

A friend of mine from high school told me about them after attending her cousin’s wedding when the trend first started (before smartphone cameras that everyone has now). But they chose to skip dancing so it was the entertainment for those who didn’t want to sit and mingle. She said she would have preferred dancing but it was fun given the options but wouldn’t have one herself. Our crowd would prefer to use smartphone cameras. So we’re likely going to skip it for that reason.

I've seen it two different ways- one wedding had a tri-pod for it, the other did not and in that case it seemed like most people relied on someone else to take the photo for them!

It’s a know your crowd thing. My guests LOVED it. We have an entire photo album of pics from it. The dance floor also didn’t look empty, nor was there a long line at the photo booth. We all enjoyed it. I feel it was money well spent; people could take a break from dancing, use the photo booth, get a drink and back to the dance floor 😄

If hiring a photobooth company isn't in the budget, you could always set up your own backdrop and provide props. Ask your guests to post to social media using a hashtag so you can look it up later and see all the photos.

I love old fashioned photo booths (the little boxes you squeeze inside with some friends and get a strip of small photos) but I think the "photo booths" that are simply a backdrop with props are so gimmicky. It's really a know your crowd thing. I really wanted an old fashioned booth for our wedding but they were hard to find and pretty expensive, and now with Covid I'm not sure how popular they would be. I would consider the layout of your venue (where does the booth go so people use it but its not in the way) and your guest list.

If you are going to DIY there are a few apps you can use with a smartphone or tablet (so if you already have an iPad at home, this could be a great option) and you can get a fairly inexpensive ring light and tripod setup off Amazon. There are also photo booth setups you can rent that are self-operable (usually have a tablet of some kind) that may be less expensive than the kind where you hire someone to shoot in front of a backdrop, because you end up paying the attendant hourly, which adds up.

We're having a photo booth and I believe our demographics will love it ! Our crowd is pretty outgoing and social.

Our friends always take pictures in photobooths whenever they come across one so we hired a vendor that drives '71 VW bus that's converted into a photobooth for our guests. It will kind of double as a favor since everyone will be able to take a photostrip home with them so I think it's worth it. The bus itself will be a fun thing to take pictures with and then the photobooth with props should be fun for everyone.

    Hi there!

Even though photo booths are fun, I've been to a few weddings where guests were so distracted taking pictures in the photo booth all night that it took away from the wedding reception.

Ex: people congregating by the photobooth rather than dancing.
