Hello everyone, I have a question about photographers. They're crazy expensive and I have a pretty cheap venue (some would call it redneck), we aren't fancy people. I honestly haven't planned much of anything yet, but that's not the point.

Has anyone thought about something instead of a photographer? Like friends and family taking pictures, everyone has a smart phone so maybe using that or if people have cameras then them bringing their cameras and taking pictures. I want the memories and I found a couple photographers that I like but they're so expensive! Yeah, I know you can't put a price on someone's art and it's worth it in the end. I dunno I'm cheap and seeing all these price tags makes me so nervous. I just want to be married with our friends and family around us.

I agree! Even if for only a few hours and skip out the reception pictures except like the cake cutting or something. But again, I am not doing the dance and toss and garter thing. I ditched all that.

I agree, that it is generally worth getting the best photographer you can.

I would like to point out, though, that in 10, 20, years you will (I hope) still have your spouse and your marriage. So, photos are wonderful, but they are not everything!

Go to a collage or photo school in your area, or check craigslist. Very often students needing a portfolio will shoot your day for cheap. You guests should take photos, but it should not be their job. They should just enjoy themselves and if they are drinking, you know those photos will be fuzzy!

I would set aside money for a photographer. Maybe get some disposable cameras to let guests take some pictures, but you will regret it if you don't have good quality pictures to represent your special day.

I would recommend hiring a student or beginner photographer! Ask around your community, I know I would definitely take pictures at a wedding if someone asked me to.

There is one thing I have heard I. The process of wedding planning... cut costs and diy everything that you can, but get a professional photographer. You will have those pictures forever and want the best to remember your special day!!
