So wow let me start off by saying I knew something like this was gonna happen but I didn't think it would be something this major. So I was completely lucky to find this photographer, or so I thought. She had posted an add stating she has been doing weddings since 2009 and wanted to redo her website so in turn for being able to use your wedding pictures she was advertising free photography to the first couple who responded. I didn't think I'd be the first one but I guess I was. She sent me her website and looked like a totally awesome photographer and had lots of good reviews. She agreed to do my wedding after getting to know my FW and I a little more, emailed a contract and had us mail it back signed. We were so excited and so happy as we have a small budget and decided to push our wedding up a year so only had 3 months to find vendors that were open on our date. This was a month and a half ago. Okay so flash to yesterday and she TEXTS me and says that she can't find a baby sitter for a wedding she's known about for awhile now. I know what you're gonna say, "but you signed a contract" unfortunately she's only liable for the retainer if she fails to perform but since it was free there was no retainer. It would be totally different if I was seeking her out and asked her to do it for free, but she ADVERTISED it in turn for new pictures on her website. I am completely peeved off. My wedding is 3 and a half weeks away and since it was free we were not putting away any money to pay a photographer which leaves us absolutely screwed. My coworker offered to do it as he has done a few weddings himself on the side but is not a professional, it is so nice of him to be so kind to us and help us find a solution. I am so thankful for it but I wanted to hear y'alls thoughts/experiences with unprofessional photographers?

To everyone who has shown support for me on this post thank you so much I have absolutely been freaking out because this is honestly one of a brides biggest fears and all the kind and helpful words have been so awesome! I still can't believe someone would have the audacity to cancel on me 3 weeks before your wedding, it's just crazy to me!! Also I have tried to find her on anything at all to leave a review but all she has is her website and on here but it won't let me leave one on here for some reason. I just hope she doesn't do this to any other brides as this is a nightmare!

I'm not sure if you are a mom or not but it's really not that simple to just find someone to watch the kid. If the kid is quite young and she doesn't have any family close by or friends that happen to have that day off then it will be quite hard. Weddings take up quite a big chunk of the day so it's not like just looking for someone for a date night. I am a mom so I know personally it it not quite that easy.

Thank you for pointing this out, it is a very valid reason if you were going to someone's wedding as a guest. But as a vendor, you offer a service knowing that it's your responsibility to be there and get it done. I totally feel for her on a personal level if she is being honest but I also don't necessarily believe her. I think she found someone who would pay her even though she offered free services and ditched my wedding. She had implied she had known she wasn't going to be able to do it for some time but said she "wanted to exhaust every option" but anyone who works with weddings knows the closer to the wedding you cancel the harder it is to find a replacement. It just sucks it had to be literally 3 weeks before my wedding when i have absolutely no time to figure something out. I would have been a little bit more understanding if she had told me the second she doubted being able to do it. Also I'm not having a reception so she was only working for a few hours which is kind of like a date night.

    This is what I found:

    (2) A failure to sell goods, merchandise, or commodities in the manner advertised, or a refusal to sell at the price at which they are advertised or in accordance with other terms and conditions of the advertisement, creates a rebuttable presumption of an intent to violate this act.

Mich. Comp. Laws Ann. § 445.315 (West)

    Might be worth looking into...

I would make sure to leave reviews with the truth! So future brides know how unprofessional she is and to stay away.
