Photographer changing price

Nicola, on November 16, 2020 at 8:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
I have a question. My wedding was suppose to take place this past March, but due to covid—- you know the rest. Anywho, we changed the date to April 2021, but how things are looking, we will have to reschedule again(I’m okay with that). Now, the photographer stated that he wants me to sign a contract stating that I am aware that his price may change. Is this normal? If it is, okay. However, covid really has placed a damper on many things that I have no control over.

Never heard of such a thing. I would try to negotiate.

I would first check your original contract. Does it say anything about postponing? If it permits you to postpone with no penalty, then I don't think you should be charged anything extra. Otherwise, I do unfortunately think this is common. Vendors change their pricing every so often, and by signing a contract, you lock in the price. When postponing, they sometimes will require you to pay their updated pricing, since it's usually a new contract. If you do sign the agreement with your photographer, I would request that a price be locked in at the time of signing, so that it can't be randomly increased whenever.

While I was fortunate to not have to reschedule, I think it is fairly common for vendors to increase prices year to year or over a period of time. I’m guessing this may be the case depending on how long ago you signed your original contract.

I would definitely check your original contract. I’ve had my hair/makeup artist say that she’s increasing her prices but she’s honoring our original contract.

I’ve heard of a lot of vendors rescheduling once without penalties, but then charging their new rates (most vendors change their rates every few years, some do it yearly!) if you reschedule again. There will likely be something in your contract that speaks to the procedures regarding the need to reschedule. I would check your contract.

Have you checked your original contract for information regarding rescheduling? If it does not state anything about change is price due to wedding date change, I would point that out to your photographer and let him know you will be paying the price agreed upon in your contract.
