Photographer packages, etc.

Hi Lovely ladies!

We are super excited for our upcoming 2023 wedding in Rye, NY! We just booked and already have some vendors proactively reaching out to us. The one i'm kind of stumped with is a photographer.

Many of the photographers offer packages which seem great but a lot of stuff I don't need (or want for that matter) Ex: A huge printed wall photo, a photo for each one of my bridal party guests, an acrylic photo album, etc.

Is is wrong to think all I need is the 10 hr coverage day-high resolution, edited, no water mark and one photographer (possibly two since i am having 150-175 guests). It seems like they all like to tack on a lot of extras but i'm really only looking for online albums and a flash drive.

I'd love to know what you all think!

We were in the same boat, I'd just reach out to them with your needs. Our photographer customized a package to fit ours getting rid of the "extras"

They will totally work with you to customize exactly what you want. Our photographer was out of budget but she removed the things we didn't need and now fits are budget and we arent getting a bunch of stuff we dont want.

Agree with the above peeps - talk to your photographer. We are an older couple doing this again for the third time - I don't want "getting dressed" pictures, and neither of us have the "parents of the ..." or big family photo needs. Our photographer worked wonders, and came in under budget - and we STILL get 2 photographers!!

Thank you everyone! This is definitely one of those stressful parts where I’m not sure if I’m cutting too much out but truly thinking forward, I don’t need all these extra prints around my house haha.

I appreciate everyone’s feed back and it’s nice to hear most photographers are willing to really work with you.

I think you generally have the right idea. The extras are how the photographer makes money, but you don't always need them and they aren't the right fit for all couples. For example, I'm a photographer myself, so knew I'd get prints and albums made on my own and didn't need print credits included as part of my photography package.

Definitely get the hours of coverage you want and all the edited full res un-watermarked files (delivered virtually or on USB). Those are 100% must haves. I also do think you should have at least two photographers with an event that size - it will be very difficult for a single photographer to capture getting ready photos for both parties and provide full coverage with such a large event.

The only other common wedding package add on I think you should strongly consider is an engagement shoot. Meeting your photographer and doing a photo shoot beforehand will help you learn how each other works and can help you and your partner feel more comfortable being photographed before your big day. We did not do an engagement shoot, and they aren't 100% necessary at all, but I feel like they are worthwhile additions to a wedding package and have value to the client beyond just having casual romantic couple photos for your STDs and wedding website.
