Savvy April 2022

Photographer

So I've been searching for photographers and either they won't answer me back after I agree to the price. Or there prices are so astronomical that im not feeling it. I get it that is what they do and some even do that for a living so I get it but wow. Anyone having issues finding a photographer? I'm half tempted to ask family members to just take pictures but I don't want anyone to feel obligated to take pictures and enjoy themselves.

What dates are you asking about? Most wedding vendors are almost or fully booked for 2022 and starting to fill up for 2023. They may not be available at the time you want, or they're so busy they're not taking any more weddings for the time being.

How long ago did you reach out to them and they haven’t responded?

Some I reached out to almost immediately after we started planning which was August 27th. They all replied back saying they are available and gave me the prices and then wouldn't hear anything back

Have you sent follow up emails? With dates filling up so quickly, I’m sure a lot of them are bombarded with tons of requests, and it’s easy for someone to fall through the cracks. I would send a follow up email, if you haven’t already.

I have and I haven't heard back from a few of them its been a couple of weeks now. Im in contact with one lady she does amazing work but my budget was 800 max and her lowest price is 2,900 and up. Im doing this all on a budget we are doing a small wedding. But I will have to ask and see if we can make it work

If you have already reached out to them a second time and they haven’t responded, I would probably cut my losses. It doesn’t sound as though they are very reliable professionals, and you wouldn’t want to worry about that on your wedding day. Unfortunately, photography and videography are both high ticket items, and many times when you get into “budget photographers” they are usually hobbyists and not always very reliable. Make sure whoever you hire is reputable and has a lot of good reviews on multiple platforms. And make sure you see works of theirs in places other than their portfolio (which only shows their best works).

With your budget, you may want to look into your local university if they have a photography program. Usually student photographers are looking to build their portfolios and charge a lot less.

800 is really low for quality photography in most areas. This could be why it's difficult to find someone who wants to take the job. I was getting quotes $3k-6k

They are extremely busy right now with wedding season. My photographer has had photoshoots during the week and all through the weekends. Give them time to respond during busy season, but I will say it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to find a professional photographer for $800 especially if you want a full day of photos.

Also, keep in mind a small wedding does not make it less work for a photographer so they don’t usually change prices based on the size of a wedding. A good portion of their work is done after the wedding is over editing and picking the best photos.
