Maybe try Thumbtack? If there's a photography school near you (like at a college), maybe you can snag one of those students for a cheaper price than a pro?

I agree with Hannah's suggestions! Another thing you can do as well is join a Facebook group for local weddings ("[city/area name] weddings" or "[city/area name] brides") and put a post stating that you're looking for a photographer, and also include your wedding date, number of hours needed, and budget. Often times, vendors are on those groups, and either another bride can recommend someone, or a vendor who meets your criteria can respond.

Is there an option to add time onto the photographer that comes in your package?

I would make sure your contract doesn't prohibit the use of another photographer. Ours especially stated that our photographer could be the only professional photographer taking photos for our wedding. I would see if you could hire a college student who wants to build their profile.

View Quoted Comment Thank you for your advice. However, we have a photographer for the wedding but I am looking for someone to do before wedding as the service photographer does not do before. She only does the wedding and immediately after for bride/groom, bridal party and family photos.

I second reading over your contract, & double checking that you can’t add more time. I’ve never heard of a photographer not agreeing to adding on hours! But the contract point is a big one. Even if your current photographer doesn’t prohibit using another one, the other one you hire may have that in their contract. Every photographer I talked to had that built in—they could be the only still photographer.

View Quoted Comment I understand you have one for the wedding, but our contract specifically stated that no part of the day could be photographed by someone else hence why I recommend reviewing your contract. A lot of photographers will not allow any part of the day to be captured by someone else because they don't want clany confusion over who took what what photos during the day.

View Quoted Comment I do not have a contract with a photographer. It is part of the wedding package I purchased through a service. That being said I have reached out to that photographer and she is considering doing pre wedding photos independently for me.

View Quoted Comment I meant I would review the contract you have with them. They should have something in their contract about the photographer since one is included in your package. I hope she is able to provide the additional services that you need. If not, hopefully you can find someone else but I would make sure that person doesn't prohibit the use of another photographer.
