Photography prices???

Cassie, on July 5, 2018 at 2:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 21
Hello everyone! I am looking into a photographer and videographer for our ceremony and reception in Ohio. Photography is by far one of the most important things to us so we definitely want a very good one. Maybe 2 people with the cammeras and one videographer. And I’d like them both for at least 12 hours maybe 14. Anybody have any recommendations as to who? Or at least prices I should be expecting? Thank you!

12 to 14 hours seems like a lot of time. I have a 6 hour package and it's right around 2k and did not include engagement pictures. I personally haven't seen a 12 hour package offered so if you don't find one I'd assume it would be pricey to add on the extra hours

Yeah 12 hours definitely seems like a lot. What would all the be for? My package for just my photographer includes an album, 6 hours and just her with a couple different cameras set up in different areas, viewing of all my photos for just under 3k. I’ve never heard of someone being around for 12 -154hours though... that’s from like 8 am to 10 pm. Idk if anyone would be willing to work for that long.

Even in a lower cost of living area, I’d expect to spend at least 3k or more per service for that many hours.

It depends which area you're in. Start contacting via WW to get initial prices.

HIGHLY recommend 2 photographers. Very wise! You probably won't need as much time because while one is taking "getting ready/first look" shots the other can take ceremony/reception site and decor photos. While one takes family pics after ceremony, the other can get some guest pics.

To save money, we did hardly any "getting ready" pics because we knew we wouldn't frame those or want many in our album. Your call.

I suggest shopping around. I agree with most of the others. I haven't seen a package offering that number of hours, so you might need a custom one. I hired a pennsylvania photographer. I got 7 hours and two photographers for $3700.

I’d expect at least 4K for all that including videography.

Mines high. 9 hours, 2 photographers, engagement photos and wedding album for 5600. I'm paying it as I want quality pictures. I know this guy from college and his work is phenomenal. It would be cheaper if he works alone but if prefer two. Also, coming back from FL to NJ to shoot

We hired two photographers for 8 hours and are paying $4,300. We elected not to do videography, but the quotes we received were about the same as photography, or in the 8-9k range for both. I am getting married in the central coast of CA (Carmel, CA), so prices seem to be higher than average.

I'm in Denver, so that may change prices. I contacted the top 10 photographers I liked and prices started at $1,000 and went up to around $5,000 (but a few were $5,000+). We chose a photographer who was well-reviewed and had won awards for her wedding photography, $3,200 for 8 hours of wedding photography and an engagement shoot, 800-1,000 pictures from the wedding. Video we are budgeting $1,500. I got quotes for that from $600-$6,000 just depending on how in depth and what you want filmed. Will you be doing wedding-related stuff for 14 hours? We are doing 8 hours, so 2 hours of "getting ready" and 6 hours of ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. I think the highest package I saw was 10 hours from any photographer, and that was $5,000.

This will sound CRAZY but I’ll tell you anyway. I am part of a Facebook group called “Bride 2 Bride West Michigan”. I saw a posting of a girl who is just starting out with her photography business. She offered an amazing deal, with engagement pictures prior as a “test shoot” kind of, and if we were happy she would book our wedding for an amazingly low cost.
I like the other pictures in her portfolio, so I figured I have nothing to lose by trying the engagement session. Maybe you can check out a Facebook group, or maybe a design school or something to find up an coming photographers?

I just feel like 6-8 isn’t enough if our ceremony starts at 1 or 2 pm then the reception at 4 or 5. You definitely want pictures of those then I’d like getting ready pictures, but you guys make good points and im sure the videographer can get insight on everyone getting ready. Thank you guys! Ideally I’d like to not pay over 5,000 for both photography and videographer. You guys are a huge help!

I live in northern Kentucky and both my photographer and videographer are from Ohio. We are paying $2850 for our photographer with a second shooter for 10 hours and $1250 for 10 hours with our videographer. Both of these are GREAT prices in comparison to other vendors with comparable work. I'm not sure what part of Ohio you're getting married in, but I've researched photographers from Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus. I can confidently say you're not going to find a professional photographer who offers 14 hours of service, and rightfully so. I wouldn't want to work a 14 hour day, I wouldn't expect someone else to work 14 hours straight for my wedding. You may be able to find a photographer who offers an eight or ten our package who will allow you to pay for additional hours, but they will likely only go up to 12 hours. That is more than enough.

I think I from reading another one of your post you have to sit down and decide what is most important to you. We all want to have it all for our wedding but for 99.9 percent of us that is not possible. You have to decide what you want want the most. I am not trying not I be mean or bossy. I am sorry. Have you set up a budget?

I agree that 12 hours is a lot of time, but depending on your day and what you want it could be worth it. It's worth taking a moment to outline what that schedule would look like for the photographer just to make sure you want to pay for it as it will likely be extra hours added onto a 10-hour package.

Photography is a top budget priority (and I actually came in under budget), we signed for a 10-hour package with 2 photographers and three add-ons (we have a list to choose from are doing a boudoir shoot, photo album, and large framed print) - it came out to $3500 for everything. That said she was a steal (and amazing, she's hands down the vendor I'm most excited about), most of the photographers on our shortlist were between $4500 to $5000, with videography being more (I don't have quotes sorry).

I'm not in the Ohio area so I don't recommendations, but wedding wire was my best friend when researching photographers. I dug through anyone with a 4+ star rating, read all the reviews, looked at their online portfolios, Instagrams when they had it, and requests to see full weddings - then narrowed it down to a shortlist of who we wanted to interview.
