We are having pictures of me my bridesmaids & daughter and the groom and his groomsmen along with getting ready photos before the ceremony starts. When it’s cocktail hour we want to do pictures with the family. How long does it usually take to do pictures with family?

I think it really depends on how large of a family you have and what different groups you want to have. For our wedding, photos during cocktail hour took about 45 minutes, but that included family photos, full bridal party photos (we took separate prior to the ceremony), and additional photos of my husband and I (we did a first look) since we wanted as many photos of just the two of us as possible. Our family photos included parents, siblings & their significant others, husband's nieces and nephews (they were also the ring bearer & flower girls and neither of my siblings had children at the time), and my grandparents (my husband's are deceased).

You can do family photos in 30 minutes - but only if you have a clear shot list and everyone is easy to wrangle!! 😆

We had our extended family all stay in the church as the rest of our guests left and did family pictures right then so we could get them done quickly before anyone wandered off!

For my brother's wedding we made it clear to everyone beforehand to "stick near the ceremony area as we were taking family pictures immediately following the ceremony. If you have to run to your car or the restroom after the ceremony, let someone know so we know to wait for you!"

We got both sides done with the established shot list in 15 minutes because everyone knew to wait near the area, so they got done very quickly and were able to go enjoy cocktail hour!
