Photos Timeline!

Claire, on June 21, 2022 at 7:44 AM Posted in Planning 5 6
Hi everyone! I’m only 11 days away now so I’m trying to really nail down our timelines and details.

How much time did your photographer use for getting ready photos? Like if you and bridesmaids, you getting dressed, details shots etc.

If you did a first look how much time did your photographer plan for those photos and couples portraits after?
How long did your bridal party and family photos take?
My photographer gives wide time bands (for example 30 min -2hr) and says “based on what you want”. So I’m looking for averages to work with. I don’t have an extensive must have shot lost and we both have small immediate families and a small bridal party.
Thanks for any help!

My photographer is planning on 3 hours to get all of the pictures done. This includes our first look (sort of), wedding party, and family. I think she planned a buffer in there, too. She'll take detail shots during dinner. I'm not getting the getting dressed shots, but my sister's took 30-45 minutes.

My photographer took an hour for getting ready photos (she was in the bridal suite while her assistant went to the groom suite). At the end of that hour, I went to do my first looks.

We met with our photographer yesterday this is what they told us:

    Groom prep shots: 30 min

Bride prep shots + details: 90 minutes

First look + couple shots: 30 minutes

Formal family pics + Bridal party photos: 90-120 minutes

If you have a smaller family and smaller bridal party, I'd say that can be less. They said depending on the number of people in a picture it can take 3-5 minutes to get everyone posed and looking nice.

I already posted but I didn't see you were asking about all the photos. I thought you just meant getting ready photos. Here was my whole photography schedule which was plenty of time:

Noon - Photographers arrived, detail shots
12:15 PM - Getting ready pics (makeup, putting on gown)
1:00 PM - Bride & Dad first look (bridesmaids and moms got dressed)
1:10 PM - Couple first look & portraits
1:45 PM - Immediate family portraits (bridal party, parents, siblings)
2:30 PM - Guests started to arrive, family hung out in the bridal suite for a while before taking their places
    3:00 PM - Ceremony
3:20 PM - Extended family portraits (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc.)
    3:45 PM - Cocktail hour
4:20 PM - Bride & groom ballroom photos (shots of us dancing etc. before the guests came in for dinner)
    4:45 PM - Grand entrance
    7:30 PM - Sunset photos

Heres what ended up happening on our day!

Groom getting ready and bride getting ready- 1hr each (we had 2 photographers so this happened at the same time)
First look/couples pics/wedding party- 1.5 hours total, we did this before going to the ceremony location
Family- 30 mins, we did this during cocktail hour

My photographer arrived at 1 o’clock and stayed till about 9 PM. It took about 2 1/2 hours for our photos post ceremony.
