Picking a Day-of Coordinator

Emily, on May 5, 2021 at 1:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are trying to pick a day-of coordinator and have two options that we can't decide between. The first one is more expensive (by $700), but is a 2 person team and can provide some decorations, like a card box, an easel and sign, and votives. The second one is $700 cheaper and is a 1 person team with limited decorations (just a few chalkboards). We love them both, but I'm not sure which is a wiser choice. We're planning to have a 150 person wedding. We would like to keep this part of our budget lower, but I don't know if the decorations from #1 will end up saving us money in the long-run.

Thank you!!

I wouldn't make your decision solely based on which decorations they provide (you might not even like the style of decor that they have available for you to use) but I would consider what your timeline for the day is going to look like. We really liked having a 2-person team because one person was able to be at the venue setting things up while the other person was with us while we were getting ready at the hotel and and taking photos at a different location before we finally got to the venue. If you're planning on doing everything at one location, then I doubt you'd need a 2-person team unless you have other complex things going on. We did find that having the second person was very helpful though. Things like card boxes and votives can be purchased very cheaply, so I doubt you would save much money on the decorations. I'd base your decision more on if you think you could use an extra set of hands throughout the day

That's super helpful! True about the decorations. I've only seen a couple of #1's options and like them, but not sure about everything else. They still don't have everything, so we'd need to buy some decor.

We're planning to have everything at the same venue (getting ready, ceremony, & reception). The ceremony and reception are in different spots but they're about 150 feet away from each other. Our venue is setting up the tables/chairs/dishware/tablecloths, so we mostly need help ensuring decorations get set up and that a few small errands get done.

Based on this info, I would personally choose option 2! I mean check Etsy or a craft shop for the decor items, but I really doubt those things would add up to $700...unless you had like A LOT of signs and votives haha! If it's all at one venue, and the 1-person DOC has good reviews, then go with that!! I'll add a small caveat that the reviews should be on a site with a reputation for keeping all reviews, even critical ones. There are other threads about that topic, but I'm pretty sure Google and the Knot both keep critical reviews. I'm less sure that WW keeps them.

The decorations are definitely a plus, but I was sold at 'two person team'!! An extra pair of hands will totally be worth the extra cost!

Agree with this. Don’t focus on the decorations. Go with the best personality and who you feel is a better fit.

Decorations can be rented from a party rental business or purchased from Etsy.
