We wanted an outside venue so we opted for summer. Our venue didn't have the Saturday date we wanted so we went with the next closest day available which happened to be on a Sunday.

If you want to save some money go non-peak, non-Saturday.

I was going back to grad school, so we knew summer would be the best for our schedule. Then, we just a picked a date that the venue we liked had available. We knew we wanted a Saturday evening because we had a number of guests traveling from out of town, so Saturday would work the best for traveling and minimizing number of days needed to take off. If there's no specific season or time of year that you NEED, then I would figure out budget and look at venues. Once you find a venue you love, then look at their available dates and choose what works for you regarding date and budget.

We just chose our dating anniversary so that it would be a special date for us and we wouldn’t have to worry about celebrating 2 anniversaries (or FH having to remember 2 dates 😆)

I really wanted end of summer/beginning fall so September was a top choice for me, but I went in open minded and planned on going with whatever the venue had available. Luckily at the time our venue had many dates open so we were able to get a Friday in September.

I think it depends on how long you want to have to plan your wedding. I wanted about a year to plan because I didn't want to feel rushed, so since we got engaged in April 2021, we were looking at April and June because I had some dates in mind for those months. When we chose our venue, we asked them what they had available in the April 2022 - June 2022 timeframe and ended up choosing a May 2022 date. I would decide on a venue first, then determine what they have available and go from there! Weather should also be a determining factor. It gets really hot in VA in June, so after further consideration, we decided against any June dates that were available.

I wanted beginning of fall and we knew that we wanted a Saturday because of family traveling from out of state and our venue is an hour from the ones living in state so just to give plenty of travel time. It's peak season but it was our ideal timeline so we didn't want to compromise.

    Hi Hannah,

So it sounds like the venue should be chosen first and then I could go from there. I'm looking into one we might love soon so I will see what they have. Thank you for that advice.

    Hi Cece,

I was considering that and originally wanted to do that. Only thing is that ours lands in the middle of March and the weather might not cooperate or allow us for an outdoor ceremony. So that's one of my challenges too. Love your idea!

    Hi Samantha,

September seems like the ideal, we do have a few things going on during that month but I would love to do it then because of the weather. Not too cold not too hot. I might take this is a sign. Thank you for the tip 🙂

    Hi Allison,

So I was very conflicted on either having it 2022 or 2023 as we got engaged June 2021 but since I just had a little one I feel like I might not have enough time to plan and we also have many events in 2022 as well. I think you made a great point on not feeling rushed and I'll go with 2023. That way I'll have tons of time to plan and get my wedding date choice. Thanks for the advice.

    Hi Ashlee,

The venue we are considering is also one hour away from where we live so having it on a Saturday might not be a bad idea especially since we'll have people traveling as well. Thank you for that advice I actually might go with a Saturday this fight wanting to do a day of the week I hadn't considered the time travel difference.

If you have a tighter budget or just trying to save money I would suggest a non-peak and a Sunday! I think the spring is gorgeous because it’s not too hot and you get those sunny days. I would say figure out what season you think you’d like best and go from there!

    Hi Benny,

I'm going to look into Spring dates, NYC tends to have tricky weather all up to June but now that you mentioned it I might have some luck if I do some research. Thank you for the idea.

From what I was told is that the fall time is the best time to get married so like September-November. I got married first weekend of November Smiley smile And it was perfect.

But it also just depends on your budget and what venue style you are looking for.

When my husband's friend got married, the wife told us that they originally wanted a fall wedding, but because it was more expensive during peak time they decided to move up their wedding in the summer. So, it was much cheaper.

    Hi Heather,

I was also considering a Nov wedding but was afraid it might be too cold. I think you're right if I open up my venue style I could do a wedding indoors any time of the year and during non-peak as well. I'll definitely look into the off-peak season. Thanks for the advice.

Both my fiancé and I love October the most and it is incidentally the month our anniversary lies. We picked a weekend in October that the venue had available, which everyone says is one of the most beautiful times of year at that location 🥰
