Picnic menu

Hi all! We are very laid back couple and are thinking about a picnic for the reception. There will only be about 20 people at the wedding (family and very close friends). Any suggestions on menu?

Fun! I think BBQ is always great for a casual wedding, and you can get it catered for around $10 pp!

Unfortunately, we are not BBQ people. We thought of it originally as a fun way to go and that's what got us on the picnic idea. We are just stuck with what to serve instead.

Maybe hot dogs & hamburgers? Or have some food trucks come & serve different options? I've also seen taco bars at weddings.

Maybe some grilled chicken. You could also make shish kabobas with chicken, steak and shrimp. Corn on the Cobb. Mac and cheese, salads.

What about 3-5 types of gourmet sandwiches and wraps? A large mixed green salad with dressing options on the table. For cocktail hour (if there is one), a fruit & cheese display (which is good for dessert too).

I would do two types of meats: Pulled pork , grilled chicken etc. Then you can do sides like potato salad, baked beans, grilled corn, pasta salad.

I like the idea of gourmet sandwiches and then lots of classic picnic sides - potato salad, pasta salad (maybe do one of these as mayo-based and one vinegar-based), coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, fruit and cheese platter, etc.

I'm from the south so BBQ immediately comes to mind. Pulled pork/chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, plenty of tea and lemonade, and of course, cake/pie.

We’re tossing around similar ideas and I love the idea of piada boxes! They’re Italian wrap sandwiches.

I immediately thought of fried chicken, biscuits, coleslaw, corn on the cob, green beans, tossed salad, macaroni and cheese or macaroni salad, watermelon, iced tea and lemonade.

Are you preparing the food, doing potluck, or hiring someone?

I immediately thought of hoagie trays, fruit/veggie trays, chips and dip, various salads as others had mentioned. That sounds like so much fun and I think it’s a great idea!
