picnic theme wedding

Megan, on February 23, 2012 at 11:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

Ok my mind is goin 15000 an hour and now I'm thinking of completely changing all plans. Thinkin that all this fancy stuff isn't me and fh. So thinkin of doin a picnic theme type of wedding since the more casual is us. We originally had Orange and either purple or blue as our colors but don't think that will go to well with the theme so what color you guys think I could do? And what else could the grooms side wear that's more casual or would tuxes work. He also has a best "mame" on his side so she needs to cordinate with the guys

I think orange a blue would make a great picnic color choice! The guys should go more casual - no tuxes. Maybe khaki pants, blue shirts and an orange tie! Then find some fun, playful orange socks for them. His female attendant could wear the same - or a khaki skirt with blue shirt and an orange scarf! Find some orange gingham fabric and make tablecloths with blue gingham napkins (or vice versa). Wow - where are you....I'm getting carried away!!

Hah that is awesome!! I just thought of this idea today since we decided to cut down our budget and use extra money for future expenses

That does sound fun! For flowers you could use white daisies. A simple centerpiece of one daisy in a vase. I love all the ideas moments of magic said. Hmm I want to google this now.

Orange & yellow together work nicely, too, and then you can decorate with different citrus fruits on the table, maybe some rye grass potters, a bee or butterfly here or there for a cute touch. Add touches of white/ivory, and maybe blue if you want accent.

If there were ANY way for me to make that work in my time frame, I totally would. However, fall weather in midwest is too unpredictable.

Oh I know all about Midwest weather (Minnesota) that why even though its a picnic theme itll be inside so I don't have to worry about storms or it being too hot.

But hoping the ceremony will be outside if I can find a place around the reception site

Not sure why but when I think "Picnic" I think red and white. So I looked this up for you, and I think it's adorable. Love that you're having fun with the theme!\

Just google picnic theme wedding. =)

This is why I love you guys lol. And Ariel at first all I could think of was red and white too but I don't really want those colors. Those pics are really cute though so I might have to put my own twist onto some of them =D

We had a picnic theme! We had an extremely tight budget (under $5k), little time to plan (entire wedding planned and executed in 3 months) and are NOT fancy formal people. Definitely choose an outdoor venue. We had our ceremony AND reception (45 people) at a State Park, total venue cost $45! Daisies were a great compliment for the theme (and my fav flower).

For food, we actually had a potluck. We had a ham, sub sandwiches and all the fixins. Cupcakes instead of cake as well.

Only downfall - We forgot the tablecloths when we left town. but no one cared or noticed. it was perfect for us!

As for colors - We chose red, black and white, but you could go with any of the combos mentioned above.

For more casual wear, I love the idea of khakis and shirts mentioned by Magic. Our boys decided to go with the tuxes, minus the jacket. For the reception most had lost the vests and were rockin' suspenders.

    Good luck!

I would love to have an outdoor reception but I don't trust Minnesota weather. I tried to mention not wearing a tux to the FH but I don't think he liked that idea too much so maybe I can get him into the idea of not wearing the jacket so it will look a littke more casual. And I was thinking of doing cupcakes instead of cake and just have one layer as cake to be able to cut.

Ok, so I really got into this... so bear with me. It will take a few posts. I don't know your accent color but you could do a very elegant but laid back orange picnic wedding. I'll start with invitations. These show in read but you could totally do these in orange using the pattern below.

And then random stuff like the grill for the groomsman's gift, creamsicles for dessert,

My colors are tangerine and jade (teal green) and the first cake that EDubbsWife posted is the cake that mine will be based on! Smiley smile So I love that color combo.

We are having a backyard bbq wedding with our guys in tuxes and ladies in cocktail dresses. BUT I LOVE the picnic idea. Here are some cute ideas I found online. I am doing the processco and popsicle idea if it looks like it will be REALLY hot out. Smiley smile
