Picnic wedding?

Brandieb123, on April 7, 2016 at 8:20 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 57

I am getting married in a garden park place thing lol

It is actually very beautiful. People get married there a lot.

I am on a very tight budget. My fiance and I have 2 kids. Our toddler has asd. We have to put money in other places. So there that is...

Anyway, I was trying to come up with ways to save money on it. I could cut out chair and table rental completely if we had a picnic wedding.

I told fmil about this and she brought it to my attention that her grandfather back in the day donated land to a church and the church will let her borrow chairs and tables. I was thinking that was great. I can save money and keep tables.

The problem is I already pinned a million picnic ideas and I still love the idea.

So what do you think about a picnic wedding?

Last pic is the place for the ceremony

The pictures are cute, but I think it'd be difficult to pull off well. I'd definitely make sure people know that they'll be sitting on the ground... It would absolutely dictate what I would wear. Also, would everyone in attendance be able to sit like that? I imagine it would be difficult for older guests. And, what would you do if it rained? People couldn't sit on wet ground... I think you'll hit a lot of problems.

It's not my style but it looks cute in the pictures! What is your guest list and what food are you doing?

I've never seen this idea before. I think it's cute. But I would definitely worry about guests with mobility problems. And I would make sure to tell my guests the theme of the wedding ahead of time.

Cute pictures but I don't know if I'd want to sit on the ground and eat.

No. I think you need a chair and table for every butt. If I wanted to sit on the ground and eat....no. I would never want to sit on the ground and eat. If you have the option of free chairs and tables, please use it.

50ish people. Its not too big. Not very many older people. Our parents are in their late 50s but they still get up and down just fine. I would tell everyone if I decide to go this route. I am not sure about the food yet. I was thinking maybe bbq. Its not formal. Thats not our thing lol

    The pictures are so cute.

However, even if it rains that week you'll need some serious backup plan so no one ends up with a muddy butt.

I think the pictures can be pretty, but I would be so uncomfortable on a blanket on the ground. I would definitely go for the chairs!

Hi! I agree that in theory it seems cute, but might be not as comfortable or practical in execution. Would you gather up blankets that you already have? The picnic baskets are one thing that makes it cute as are the coordinated quilts. It would only be economical if you or family members already owned these items. You know your guests better than us. It definitely could be done, just maybe go through all the things that people have mentioned and weigh out the good and bad.

Why not have a mix of tables and chairs with blankets . let people make up their own mind.

Be clear in your invites that this will be a picinic style reception. Or better yet, have it mid day and do cake punch and finger foods. This why you save on providing a meal. Cake punch, lemonade, iced tea, spritzers, and something "manly" to drink with finger sandwiches; cucumber, ham and cheese, pb&j, all cut in triangles. fruit salad, meat on a stick, potato salad, tomato and mozz sticks, popcorn, ..... This would be lovely!!

This is one of those things that looks great on Pinterest, but in real life?

    No.

Cut your list. And have chairs.

It's a cute idea but it's a huge risk, it would also be a very casual event. I know I would wear a maxi dress at best for a picnic. Also, I don't think it would be that comfortable, you can still do a picnic theme with tables and chairs.

No, I wouldn't do it. It will not be comfortable for most people. You need tables and chairs.

I was going to do something like this, we had picnic tables available to us at the park of our choice. Only thing was that the town who owned the park decided to schedule a 400 person baseball tournament on our day. We had to find another place to have our wedding, and we had to replan everything all over again for an indoor reception. There are several logistics to work on with a park wedding. Toilets, what to do in case of inclement weather, how to keep food safe without electricity, your elderly family members and walking distances, etc etc

I hate this idea. I would not want to sit on the ground at a wedding, especially if I'm in a dress/skirt. Old people aren't the only ones that would have trouble sitting on the ground for that long.

Cute in theory, but I would give it a big no. I would not be down for sitting on those blankets for much longer than 15 or 20 minutes! It would be an even bigger no-no if it was a surprise for the guests. Nice dress, heels, and then find out I'm sitting on the ground?? I would not be a happy camper. Not at all.

I'm 31, on my feet all day for work, and can probably deal with more discomfort than the average person.... but my back hurts just looking at these pictures and imagining an entire ceremony, dinner, and reception's worth of sitting on the ground.

It's cute in theory but in actuality think about it all dressed up trying to sit in your nice clothes on a lawn, no thank you.
