Pillows out of wedding dress?

Bree, on April 18, 2014 at 9:58 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4

I have decided to make pillows out of my wedding dress. I thought it would be nice to give our grandparents/parents pillows from it too.. does anyone have any idea how many pillows I might be able to get out of my dress?

It depends on the size of your dress, the size of the pillows, and whether you want the dress fabric to make up the whole pillow or just the front...

Figure out what size pillow you'd like to make and figure out the area. Then figure out the area of your dress. You'll probably only want to use the skirt since the bodice may be somewhat stiff.

Bree, make an extra one. My ring bearer pillow was made out of my mom's wedding dress (which also happened to be my grandma's dress too). You can then pass a piece of your wedding dress down to your own child(ren) for their wedding someday. We're keeping the pillow to hand down to our children and who knows maybe someday we'll incorporate a piece of my dress into it as well.

I had the train cut off my dress and a friend made a pillow for us out of that fabric.

My mom's wedding gown was made for her. G'ma kept the extra fabric. When I came along 1.5 years later, g'ma made a christening gown for me. There was still a bit of fabric left over, so she made a bride doll for me.
