This is an odd question... So FH and I have pretty much hit our budget are looking into cutting out some things that simply costs too much and are not need. So FH and I have pretty much hit our budget are looking into cutting out some things that simply costs too much and are not need. Two of the things on the list are pipe and draping for our reception and a draped chuppah at the ceremony alter (ceremony is outside). Both that I have fallen in love with the idea of having (they make things look so pretty!)

Have any of you ladies originally planned for but then decided NOT to have pipe and draping (for whatever reason) and regretted it? Did you notice? Did it affect pictures?

Our venue does not need this stuff at all as it's a new facility but I really think it adds to the look…but is it worth almost $2k?? Smiley sad

Yes, our venue was bright white walls and ceilings with industrial concrete floors. And then it had these ugly steel support beams. That's why we spent the cash to drape the support beams - the rest of it we just did lighting b/c it worked for us. Every venue is so different! And thanks!!!

And OMG I had the same DIY/OOT dilemma. We planned our wedding from a small corporate housing apartment 8 hours from the location. I can't tell you how many of my DIY ideas got scrapped at the last minute, b/c we realized that all of our crap wouldn't fit into the car to haul it up there. Smiley sad

If you can manage the storage/transport/setup/takedown, I think that piping method you posted could be great for the backdrop and the chuppah! Onward, bride! Smiley smile

If all you want is a backdrop behind the sweetheart/headtable you should ask your florist for a quote. Our florist is willing to do a curtain backdrop for only $200. I'm still not sure if we are going to do this or not as our DJ is providing uplighting and a gobo as well. I've seen pictures of uplighting/gobo combination behind the sweetheart table and it looks pretty nice so we might just end up doing that and saving the $200. Just an option if you don't want to go through the trouble of DIY.

I was about to suggest the instructables page, but looks like you've already found it!

I did theatre set work for years, and this sort of thing can be a bit time consuming, but it's well worth it in the end!

keep us updated! want to hear how it works out for you!

I was recently thinking to cut our my pipe and drape idea for our wedding too, but then I found this company called Silver Star Displays that has great deals for wedding pipe and drape. They hooked us up with a great deal and now I don't have to sacrifice the decorations for the wedding! Here is a link to their website if you want to check out what they can do for you:

However, What did you do with all of the DIY when your wedding was done?

I am making one of my own backdrops myself. Draping(which I just think is like a backdrop) was expensive when I went to a planner. $250 per backdrop... I bought a backdrop support kit off of amazon for $32 and then I was lucky enough to find some drapes at goodwill for 50% making each one 2.50 a piece. I am adding lights I have been collecting from after christmas sales and they will be seen through the drapes I bought. All total for about $50 maybe a little less. If you have the time it is possible especially if you say the venue doesnt need much anyways.
