Pizza at reception

Kayla, on August 22, 2020 at 6:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
Has anyone had pizza at their reception and their reception hall didn’t have a kitchen? If so, how did y’all keep the pizza warm?

You may have to bring in a microwave.

A lot of pizza caterers will have special big insulated storage boxes to keep a stack of individual pizza boxes in to retain the heat. Or, you might look into a mobile "brick oven" type pizza place that will cook them onsite and continuously replenish with hot pizzas.

We looked into a food truck that does pizzas and salads, but our event was too small for their minimum.
Are you thinking of getting a bunch of pizzas either for pick up or delivery rather than having a caterer?

Yeah we were just going to have them deliver them. And they offered to come in intervals so the pizzas would stay warm but 1.) that’s a lot of work for their employees and 2.) I don’t want some people eating while others are just sitting there.

So we had this problem. I insisted on fresh pizza for our wedding. We love pizza and could eat it everyday. We spoke with a wood fire pizza truck that sets up at your venue and makes pizza throughout the evening. The problem was they were over an hour away and we’re going to charge us a fortune just to travel. Second option was a local brick oven pizza that was a mile from our venue and could also deliver fresh pizza throughout the evening. They were really expensive. 3rd option was our local grocery store who offered a pizza and pasta package. I expressed my concern about our pizza not be good after being cooked several hours before the wedding. Our caterer agreed to bring a table grill and grill flatbread pizza during our reception.

If they’re willing to come in intervals, would they be willing/able to leave a few of the big insulated bags they use instead? Several pizzas should fit in each bag, and depending on how many people you have that might get you through the meal with only one delivery.

I didn’t even think about the insulated bag! I’ll have to ask. Thanks for that! 😊

That’s a great option! I might have to ask them about that. Thank you!

Are you using them as a late night snack?

I had a truck that had a wood fired oven onboard and cooked the pizzas fresh onsite. We only had 35 people but with appetizers and salads we easily met their minimum. Oh guests raved about the fresh cooked pizza! Good luck.

A few years ago at one of my father's remarriages, they served pizza as the main meal. It was delivered all at once from a local chain they liked along with sides for everyone. The delivery and setup in the church fellowship hall took place during post ceremony pictures and people started eating as soon as they walked in so there were no issues with any food getting cold. Just like getting hot pizza at your front door.

    You could use heat lamps.
