Pizza for a wedding?

Nadya, on January 8, 2019 at 8:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hey guys,

Me and my fiancee are going to have a VERY SMALL wedding (30-50 people) in 2020. We have been talking a lot about food and budgeting and have decided on doing pizza, wings, and salad. Please don't judge but pizza is our favorite thing in the world and so US. My question is, has anyone ever done this before? And if you have what did you do to keep the pizza warm? or did you have it ordered for a certain time? and if you did, what did you do to entertain guests before it arrived?

My college bff had a buzz buffet at her wedding. She did it at an Italian restaurant and it was honestly the bomb!!! They were able to keep fresh hot pizza that way.
FH kept saying he wouldnt mind pizza but our options took us another direction.

I would rent out a private room at a restaurant that serves pizza or hire a pizza food truck to come to the event. That way you don't have to worry about food safety and quality.

I love pizza and I think it's a great option. I would look for a caterer so that they have the equipment to keep it warm or a food truck. With only 30 people though you could probably just schedule a delivery. It depends on how formal you want your reception to be. Do you mind having pizza in a cardboard box or do you envision a nice table buffet? Something to think about is having an alternative plate for grandparents. I was talking to my parents about a pizza reception and they suggested to me not to because my grandparents are in their 80s and cannot digest food like that.

We totally wanted to do a gourmet pizza bar for our wedding but sadly, I don’t think it’s going to work out because this private guy ONLY does pizza (bc of his insurance) and I cannot find anyone who will co-cater with him Smiley sad

anyway, I would look into finding a food truck or some type of onsite wood fired pizza. These are typically “flash cooked” and come out of the oven at over 800 degrees and don’t sit out long enough for them to get cold as usually people are mingling and hanging around and grabbing more. Plus, with this I feel like the pizzas are a little more upscale or gourmet than just ordering from your local pizza joint.

Lastly, I would reconsider wings...I just feel like that can be messy...unless they were boneless? Other ideas could include meatballs, lasagna bites or mini mozzarella cheese sticks ? You could also include pastas as a side for some or as their main course if they don’t want pizza.

Do you already have a reception location booked? If not, is there an Italian or upscale pizza restaurant in your area with a private room you could rent for your wedding? Pizza and wings are only really good when they're fresh and hot, so keep that in mind when planning. It's also a really casual menu that only works if your wedding is relatively casual. If that's what you're planning and you can work out the logistics so the food is hot and fresh, go for it!

I would do a pizza truck to have some sort of formality to it! Otherwise rent out a restaurant banquet area as someone else said! I think the food dictates a lot of other elements of a wedding, fancier or not fancy. Our friends really wanted pizza and she legit wanted 7/11 slushies lmao but they settled for homemade pizza bagels their venue made as passed apps! It was a hit! I would try to vamp up the pizza option is some way. Def look into food trucks for sure, that always seems fun!

I worked at a pizza place for years. If you order more than 5/6 pizzas for delivery they are going to be room temperature before they even leave the restaurant. Logistically it’s hard for even the restaurant to keep that many pizzas warm. I’m not against pizza at a wedding, I’m even looking into it for my my own wedding, look around and see if there’s a pizza food truck near you

Sounds like a good idea to me! I knew people who rented out a hall and pizza delivered from a nearby pizza place and everything tasted good and everyone was happy.

We're doing pizza at our wedding! It will be served buffet style, but it's being made it a brick oven style pizza truck, that way everything comes out fresh.
