Place cards, escort cards, or seating chart?

Lynnie, on April 17, 2018 at 3:05 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 26

How will your guests know where to sit at the reception? Did you decide to go with place cards, escort cards, or a seating chart?

While they can all sound interchangeable - they're actually different!

Place cards are set up at the guest's individual seat, and let your guests know which specific seating assignment they have at that reception table. If you decide to go with place cards, you might also want to provide escort cards or a seating chart to let your guests know which table they're seated at before they find their specific seat. Place cards can also be really helpful if your venue needs to know who is eating which entree!

Escort cards tell your guests their reception table assignment! They are typically set up at cocktail hour or on the way into your reception, and guests can grab their card and take it with them.

Seating charts do the same job as escort cards and inform your guests of their table assignment!

And to make things a little more confusing...none of these options have to be physical cards! You can use favors to do double-duty, or get creative!

Which option are you going with?

We did escort cards and a seating chart and I didn't realize how redundant it was until it was the tail end of cocktail hour and people were either looking at the board or their marble tile coasters...

We are having escort card keys (bottle openers) hung on a few boards during cocktail. We met during a festival called Tomorrowworld and the theme that year was "The key to happiness" This was a fun way to tie that in together.

We had both escort cards and place cards. Our escort "cards" were ornaments personalized with each guest/couple' names and were hung on the large Christmas tree near the entrance into the room. They were one of the favors.

We had to do escort cards since we had to indicate meal choice on the back for the servers.

We are doing escort cards. It is actually a requirement by our venue to have escort cards, with the person choice of entree on it.

We will be doing escort cards that will be attached to the masquerade masks we are giving our guests, and asking them to wear during our ceremony. So our guests will actually know what table they are at before the ceremony. For us it just seemed more cost effective and fun to have the masks/ escort cards serve dual purposes!

We are doing a seating chart because the "escort cards" are actually photo book slips but not the standing ones.

We’re doing escort cards, but possibly posting a seating chart to help people out as well. We need to put meal choices on the escort cards.

We are doing a seating chart that will be written on 2 mirrors that my grandparents had in their bedroom. We are refinishing them with a gold polish that makes the wood have a rose gold tone.
We will also have place cards at the table that will be a card in a plant flag in a small potted succulent plant that will double as a favor. My florist is incorporating the succulents into the centerpiece.
I’m supper excited about how it is all turning out !

Escort cards attached to antique keys hanging on a door. FH is a door builder and carpenter so I'm incorporating some wooden elements as well as this nod to his love for doors.

It will definitely be escorts cards. We were thinking of maybe putting it in bonbonniere which is a cinderella carriage with horses picture frame.
