Place cards & food items

We are letting people pick what they want to eat at the wedding, so would each individual even a married couple get their own card so you can mark the back of which food item they got? Or would you still do one and just double mark it and let the server ask who has what?

Each individual gets their own escort card with individual meal selection. Etsy has colored cards that you write names and assignments yourself (order extras of each because you will make mistakes and need to make last minute changes too) and each color would be a different meal selection.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/614485193/wedding-blank-place-cards-colored?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=colored+escort+cards&ref=sr_gallery-1-4&organic_search_click=1 as an example of a vendor and pretending your colors are blue, red and pink, red would be beef, pink is chicken and blue for vegan. Give the color code to the catering liason with how many of each per table so waiters know what to look for.

You should ask your venue or caterer what they need (they may have a specific process), but I definitely think it's easier to have individual escort or place cards with their entrée clearly indicated!

Here are a few example photos I think are fun:
