Placement of video cameras

Gen, on July 10, 2018 at 2:44 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9
We’ve decided not to hire a videographer since we are trying to save that money for other things and we don’t need a fancy video, but we are planning to set up a couple cameras before the ceremony and just press record so we can just have it to remember our ceremony. I have a really nice camera and tripod, and one of my bridesmaids has one as well that she’ll be bringing.

I’m wondering, with 2 stationary cameras (meaning they will have to be in the same place through the whole ceremony) where would be the best place to position them? I of course want one to capture us up by the altar, and I would like the other one to show the people walking down the aisle, but then that one would kind of go to waste once the walking is done... And as for the one recording the altar, where should we place it? Back of the room may be too far, but front of the room may get in the way.

Has anyone done this or have any suggestions other than to hire a videographer and/or not set up cameras? Lol

To clarify I’m just looking for what the best positioning/angles would be for the cameras, not looking for other options on how to get a video

This is going to depend entirely on how your venue is set up. I would ask your coordinator if anyone has done this before and what they did.

Do you have any way to ensure the sound will be caught?

I dont know how your altar is set up but can you place it somewhere behind the officiant on one side of him/her? That way it can get people walking down the aisle and also you two during the ceremony. Then I'd have one behind the guests to have an overall shot

If you do this the camera has the potential that it will be in all the photos of your ceremony. So be aware of that.

I was thinking about doing it behind the officiant but then I’m worried what if he moves slightly and blocks it?

Yeah. He would have to be really cautious about it. It is difficult. I'm sorry.

Bring them to your rehearsal. You’ll have a chance to test drive it before you get butt shots of your officiant or miss the whole thing

If you had tiny cameras you could just put one on the officiant's clothing maybe? Or if you have a trellis or arch, you could hide it up there
