Just Said Yes November 2023

Placing bouquet orders soon and wondering about colors.

A married friend told me it's a good idea to find your florist a few months before the wedding and so I want to do that and discuss my ideas with the florist, but I'm confused on what colors I should choose for the BM bouquets vs mine. Should they be identical colors or differing? Or maybe I could go for different flowers than mine? Identical ones are pretty.

But I kinda prefer bouquets with varying colors like these. Except the giant one that the bride has cause I'd have some trouble carrying it around.

And it suits the theme better cause they all have different colored dresses like in the picture. But then when I brought it up to the bridesmaids, one of them said it would look tacky, so I'm pondering my decision. She said something about different textures, whatever that means.

But I'm confused and need some opinions. What do y'all think I should choose?

Honestly, you can do whatever you want! There's no hard and fast rule to flowers, and it's your wedding, your vision. Typically you would want some form of consistency amongst the bouquets. So they don't need to be "matching", but should be the same or complimenting colors. For example, a lot of brides carry a larger bouquet than their bridesmaids. So the bride's bouquet may have 7-10 different types of flowers, and then the bridesmaids' bouquets will be made up of 3-5 of those same flowers. You could make all the BM's bouquets the same, or you could mix and match the flowers differently amongst all of them (so each would be unique, but still all made up of the same flowers from the bridal bouquet). Another option would be to have completely different flowers in the BM bouquets than the bride's bouquet. A lot of people choose this option because it can be cost effective. So the florist would use more expensive flowers in the bridal bouquet (since more people pay attention to it, it will be photographed a lot more, etc.), then use less expensive flowers in the same and/or complimenting colors.

I would suggest taking in some photos and colors you like and the florist will make suggestions/talk you through the decision making process. But I would also suggest doing that ASAP! We had to book our florist over a year out because she was so busy with weddings every weekend!

I second just doing what you want! Just start talking to florists with colors and, more importantly, a budget!!! in mind. If you’re like me and know very little about flowers and what the options are, it can be so helpful to give colors and a price range to the experts and let them start throwing out suggestions. Some of our flowers are ones I’ve never heard of. And not a lot of flowers come in one of our wedding colors, navy blue, so our florist was able to suggest something in another complimentary shade. But again, I would also have your budget in mind so they can also tell you what they can do in the range you’re looking for. And don’t worry about getting a bigger/heavier bridal bouquet. You do not have to get a huge one if you don’t want, and some brides who get giant bouquets actually regret their decision later because then the bouquet covers up too much of their dress in pictures. Just get a size and shape that works for you.
