Tuesday night, FH and I had unprotected sex (too "in the moment" to go upstairs and get protection...so stupid). So, Wednesday morning I took Plan B(well, "The Next Choice" which is like the generic, but the same thing) for the first time. Ever since then, I've been feeling like I got hit by a truck! My stomach is crampy (expected that), but my bones ache, my head hurts, my chest hurts, etc. Has anyone else had these issues after taking Plan B? What was your experience with it?

And on a side note, why is it so crazy expensive? $55! If it's supposed to be for teens who are trying to avoid unwanted pregnancies, most of them don't have that kind of cash! Nuts.

I know nothing of it other than the controversy and all that crap- but the expense is understandable in my opinion.

It's not a medically neccessary medication, so insurance isn't going to pay for it in most cases. Drug companies spent years and millions of dollars in research to create it= so they charge a fee to recoup those expenses.

As someone taking an antibiotic that costs $300 for 14 days... $55 for a pill is a steal.

Not that this is relevant now- but it may also be to get people to pay for birth control... since long term birth control is actnot much more and could come out actually cheaper than the after the fact prevention methods.

I have not taken it before but I looked up on the FDA website what the side effects are and it sounds like it is all normal. http://www.drugs.com/pro/next-choice.html I think that if you take some advil or even some pepto you should be okay in a day or so according to the FDA. Just get some rest! Feel better.

Basically, the cost is high because it can be. I'm not getting into why I think the way we handle healthcare and drugs is ridiculously bad in this country, but when insurance frequently won't even cover birth control (despite the fact that it's WAY cheaper to do so than to cover pregnancy and childbirth), it's not surprising that it doesn't cover Plan B, either.

The drug companies aren't worried about people using it as "substitute birth control"; they just know that they can charge a high price for anything that people are buying in an emergency situation, because they'll pay it and worry about the money later if they have any means at all to do so. (And it's still cheaper than an abortion, even an early one, I admit. So it's not like there's a cheaper option.)

Anyway, even regular birth control can have a lot of side effects, so unfortunately, you'd pretty much expect them from a high dose hormone pill. Feel better soon!

I think if you buy it over the counter it is expensive but if you go to planned parenthood you can sometimes get it for a lot cheaper maybe even free.

I took it once a few years ago the day after valentines day and had to go to 4 pharmacies because everyone was out. I was thinking - wow I'm not the only one that had a good valentines day Smiley winking I didn't feel any effects from it but I also don't have any side effects from my pill either.

I bought it many years ago but went to Planned Parenthood so it wasn't too much and I didn't really experience any side effects that I can remember.

Yes, there is the potential for a lot of side effects. However, pregnancy also has the potential for a lot of side effects (even leaving aside the issue of the baby). So if those are the two choices, Plan B is clearly the safer one.

I took it and had the symptoms you're talking about. It does mess up your cycle, because the pill basically forces your body to have a period. So not only are you dealing with normal period symptoms, but your body is p!ssed because it was FORCED into it. So, yeah, that's normal.

It's not really especially made for teens who want to prevent an unexpected pregnancy. It's for any woman, right. It's not meant to be used in place of regular BC/contraception.

    .

The Plan B pill can definitely knock you on your butt because it's a big dose of hormones and such so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

I don't have much experience in this area, however @sharon when you mentioned the rythem method--I busted out laughing..because all my children were concieved through the rythem method. I guess we need to work on getting the rythem right...lol.

@danielle i hope you fell better. Also i knew a woman once who took the Plan B (morning after pill) and gave birth 9 months later. Her doctor said " nope that child was intended to be born no matter what you did".

I've tried it, and it always induced my period, so that might explain the cramps. i'm guessing its so expensive so that people dont count on it as a primary birth control method, as it does have bad side effects on your body.
