Planning a Michigan wedding from Arizona!

Hello everyone! I was born and raised around the Detroit area but I haven’t been ‘home’ in a long time. My fiancé and I want to get married close to Detroit. Looking for a venue with a water view and a lawn for some lawn games. Something like the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe but not as expensive. Expecting about 200 guests. Any ideas? Very hard when trying to plan from out of state! I’ve looked at the venue list on here but none of the places have been “it” (War Memorial is pretty darn close but pretty costly to rent the big lawn adding to already expensive list!)

I'm in S.E. Michigan. I haven't seen that Memorial, but Grosse Pointe is still beautiful. Are you set on that area? In the Downriver area where I am there are a ton of water view venues. There is one that's STUNNING in Trenton's Elizabeth park, There are several in Wyandotte, Grosse Ile. Gibraltar is another great place because it's surrounded by water.

Most of my family live around the Royal Oak area and the fiancé wants to be close to Detroit as he’s a big fan of the Lions and he’s hoping for a home game the weekend of our wedding so we can go to a game. Trying to stay within 45 minutes of Detroit, just in case we have to do a Friday wedding so our guests won’t be in traffic! Thanks for the advice! I’ll take a look!

Hey Kristin! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!
I know you mentioned that you have already checked out the venue search on WeddingWire but were there any venues that you thought could potentially work? Perhaps you have a family member or a close friend in the Detroit area that would be able to go check in out or even get a tour. It would mean that at least you could get a trusted person's opinion on whether it would be worth your while looking into it further.
Perhaps you could also check out Airbnb, I know that you mentioned that you are expecting roughly 200 guests so it may be a little difficult to find somewhere for that capacity but as long as you check the filter for ‘Allows Events’ you may be surprised and find something!
