Planning a Move and Wedding at Once

Amira, on November 3, 2020 at 4:23 PM Posted in Planning 1 13

Hi! Posting on here to see if I'm not the only one. My wedding is at the end of this month and my FH lives in Dallas so I'll be moving the day after the wedding. Two major life changes happening at the same time is a lot to handle and I have become so overwhelmed. On top of that, FH started a new business so he has a lot on his plate too.

Basically want to know these two things:

1. Has anyone else moved far away after their wedding? I'm worried that I am going to be so sad on the wedding because ill be thinking about leaving my family Smiley sad

2. Has anyone had to pack and ship a bunch of items and if so, what service did you use?

Appreciate any tips!

I've been pre-emptively sad about it too actually, so I can't give any advice about that one. We get married on 11/27 but then move into our first house 12/1 and the timeline is alarmingly tight lol.

For long distance moving, try this site to find the best company for you. I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed! I'm praying that you get a peace of mind and joy in your spirit, in Jesus name.

We are almost wedding date twins Smiley laugh

And the move is within the state, so I really shouldn't feel as sad about it honestly. I actually don't even want to have a send-off because of that goodbye. The best we can do is hope for the best and pray for strength.

My parents got married in Nigeria, with my dad living in US and my mom living in Nigeria. So her send-off was extra emotional because she was leaving the country (back in the 90s before cellphones).

Thankfully and gratefully we have phones, email, video calls, etc. don't shy away from taking advantage of that as many times as you need once you do move Smiley heart

That’s a lot to take on. Planning a wedding is stressful as it is but adding a huge move on top? I would definitely google the area you live in for movers. Check their reviews. Have 1 weekend planned & call in the troops that all your doing is packing. I’ve seen on tv those pods- they drop it off at your house, pick it up when you’re ready & either store it or move it to your destination.

I'm moving about 5 days before my wedding and I'm stressing as well. I'm moving only 100 miles away to my FH'S hometown. And the wedding is taking place 400 miles away from his hometown in my original hometown. I'm moving without a moving company bc I plan to sell all furniture.

I completely understand this! my fiancé and I moved cross country (from Seattle to South Carolina) three months before our wedding. I’m sad thinking about my family leaving after the wedding once we’re on our honeymoon (the send off will be the last time I see them). The only thing that kept me hopeful during the move was the fact that I would see them soon for my wedding, now I don’t know when we’ll see each other again. I Just keep reminding myself of all the amazing times we’ll have on my wedding day. That and planning all of the fun visits we can do afterwards have given me some hope.

We decided to just get rid of our furniture and buy new furniture after the move, it seemed to be about the same cost if not less. Anything heavy we packed in our cars and drove across, then lighter things we shipped via fedex.

Hi Abby! It really is so hard Smiley sad but you're right, there is hope in looking forward to the future visits. You moved already, right? How are you adjusting to a new city? I'm worried about loneliness :/

Thank you for the FedEx recommendation! I've been debating which carrier to use and it was between FedEx and USPS.

Yes, I moved in July. I love exploring new places so I’m just trying to find something new to, a new place to hike, do or a new place to eat at a few times a month. It’s been fun being in a new place! I’ve had some culture shock that has made a few embarrassing moments but nothing terrible. luckily, I found a job pretty quickly and all of my coworkers are so friendly and easy to get along with. I was so busy with all of the last minute wedding planning that I haven’t had much of a chance to feel lonely until now. There’s a lot of apps that are like dating apps but for finding friends, so I’m going to look into some of those! It helps that my friends back home and I have found some creative ways to hang out virtually (game nights over zoom and working out together over FaceTime. Sometimes we watch the same movies or shows over FaceTime). That’s one pro that came out of this last year, there’s so many great ideas for staying in touch virtually on the internet now!
