Planning a wedding while in school

Chandler, on February 3, 2018 at 5:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Are there any other brides out there that will be in nursing school and planning their wedding at the same time?? That will be my situation come this fall and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for balancing both.

Not nursing school, but half time school, full time job, part time job, wedding planning. I totally hear ya on it being crazy. Just know your deadlines (for everything) and don’t leave ANYTHING to the last minute.

I'm not in nursing school but I am a student. Plan after all your school work is finished. It is very hard to balance both. If it gets to hard hire a planner. Do not put ANYTHING off until last minute. I ended up taking off this semester because my wedding is in May. Way to much for me to handle.

I'm in grad school, work full time, and have a 6 year old. We got engaged two weeks after grad school began so I was stressed but so excited to plan. It's all about time management. I do homework each night from around 8:30-11pm or later (a lot more on weekends) but usually one night a week I don't do anything and just relax and watch a movie or show with FH. And some nights, I take time to plan. I need that balance. On my lunches at work, I often made calls and sent emails to possible vendors. Everything just flowed for me. I like to be organized and to get stuff done so I took a few days to research vendors for something, we narrowed it down, we contacted a few, and then booked the one that was the best fit. Within a month of being engaged we already had venue, photographer, hair and make up, DOC, and florist. I have a few friends who are more indecisive so they said hiring vendors was a little harder for them. I really utilize my breaks and plan what we are going to get accomplished during them. During my winter break we did engagement pics, met and hired our officiant, booked catering, cake testing, purchased our rings, hotel blocks, wedding website done, booked rehearsal dinner venue, booked transportation, and mailed out STDs since we are getting married on a holiday weekend.

Try to get as much done prior to fall. Get all of your researching done, book all of your vendors, start rough timelines and to do lists (seriously helps me. I have one big word document) shop or make any décor, design STD and invites, shop for bridal party gifts here and there etc. Looking at the WW timeline helps me because I've been on track and I've done a lot of stuff they suggested to do months later. I feel awesome about everything right now (September wedding). While our wedding is on my mind, I don't feel like it is consuming me or that I'm stressed. There will be things you cannot do before fall. You can manage it all Smiley smile

Just started nursing school (loving it btw) and I work part-time too, I'd start on paying vendors off already even if people say its too early that's usually the main stress. School will obviously be first, but after you get the hang of your schedule you'll see where you can fit in wedding stuff too!

I am planning my wedding while in school as well. I am in the final 90 days for planning for our wedding and in my final semester before graduation. So I feel your pain. It can be done.

Nursing school was the hardest thing I ever did in my life. I don’t know what I would have done if I were planning a wedding at the same time!! If I were you, I would wait. Nursing school will take up ALL your time!

Agreed. I worked part time while in nursing school and it was a LOT. I can't imagine planning a wedding.

In a full time biochemistry PhD program and getting married in September. Sp far, it hasn't been too bad. Time management is definately key. Not sure what yout schedule is like, but it has been nice being able to do things on off-peak days, like trying on dresses on a Monday afternoon.

I just started my LPN-RN program and it takes up a lot of my time! I am also working part time. But we chose a venue that is all inclusive so we wouldn't have the stress of finding and negotiating with venders. which I highly recommend if you don't have a lot of free time. Good luck in the program!

My daughter will be finishing her MSN nurse midwife program in May. I have been delegated to handle a lot of the preliminary planning for her. She is getting married in October of 2018 though it looks like you have a larger window of time. Delegate what you can to family and friends and set aside time for yourself to handle the tasks that you really can't delegate.

I planned while in law school. My wedding is in a month and I feel totally on top of it all. Things like the WW and Knot timelines were key to prioritizing what needed to be done when. The more you can space out the planning, the better. I found it a lot easier to plan a little at a time over a year than it would have been to plan everything in a couple month bursts.

🙋🏽‍♀️ I got engaged the week before I started my last year of nursing school, and am currently in my last semester! I save everything, wedding wise, for my breaks (Christmas, thanksgiving, spring break) and on weekends when I KNOW I don’t have an exam or something important due. It’s really hard because wedding things are definitely more exciting, but you can do it!! You just have to keep balanced and focused! Then you will have the wedding and graduation to look forward to!

Not in nursing school, but I work full time in public accounting and take graduate accounting classes to work towards CPA eligibility. Just get it planned and deposits for major vendors paid as far in advance as you can so that you can do the fun stuff slowly but surely.

Yeah. Most people plan a wedding while working full time. Time management is your friend.
