My cousin is a wedding organizer at the church I am getting married. so, I didn't specifically hire her, but, I bounce ideas from her. she's ok with it, she's a newlywed as well.

I think about 90% of us aren't using one.

Of course Smiley smile I would strongly recommend hiring a day-of-coordinator to handle logistics though!

No planner here but having a DOC was in my venue contract.

Is everyone hiring someone for your DOC or putting a family member in charge? My parents spent quite a bit on the venue and I'm trying to cut corners to save money elsewhere.

100% ok. I do not have a planner. You might want to make sure that your venue has someone or hire someone who can manage day-of tasks like decorating, greeting vendors, etc.

I'm planning my own wedding but we do have a venue wedding coordinator, that is helpful.

I did not have a wedding planner or a DOC. I managed to plan my wedding in less than 6 months, in a city over 600 miles away and with which I was not overly familiar. However, I did have a good event coordinator at my venue and I had excellent vendors who were very responsive. So, yes. It is totally possible to plan your own wedding.

My venue recommended a very experienced caterer who took charge -- food, bar, bartender, servers, cake, linens, dishes, and even gave me a blue garter!

Didn't have a planner either but the venue provided a DOC who was a lifesaver. At least make sure you have one of those.

I don't feel like I'm in the loop as much as I should be. I can be a control freak so relinquishing control to anyone is hard for me

    I didn't have a coordinator, but I did have a DOC. I highly recommend having a DOC.

I'm also planning my wedding without one. But this means you'll be doing all the researching and contacting vendors for pricing and appointments yourself, which can be a lot of extra work. Especially if you have a "short" timeline before your wedding. Worst case, if it's too much work to handle, you can always hire someone later.

As a PP suggested, you might want a day of coordinator to take care of things the day of, so you can relax and enjoy Smiley smile
