    I think most people can do it without an acutal planner, but a good DOC is worth their weight in gold. A 'new' one (or usually, a cheap one) just gets in your way and annoys your vendors.

    Many of our venues have very, very good on site coordinators and sometimes that can be enough. Par of the problem is that you don't really know until it's too late. I have worked with venue coordinaors that should be paid to NOT show up.

    I only had a DOC at my first wedding. It was hectic. I have hired a planner and coordinator this go round and for me it is less stressful because i don't have to do a lot of the running around and dealing with vendors.
