Planning evolution and decisions forced by Covid

Kara, on October 31, 2020 at 3:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
3/23/2021 here, or so the most recent plan is. Covid has definitely made deciding on a date hard, and I’m still not sure what we will do. Originally we were planning a backyard wedding 6/26/2020 in MT with grandparents, parents, siblings and a small handful of our closest friends. This added up to about 50 people from 5 states.

I now have extended family members who are getting sick and we fear bring everyone we love together is just asking for trouble. This last week we have changed our date and have agreed that a very small courthouse wedding with just the parents is the best bet. We can be legally wed and the have a big vow renewal/ceremony with the extended family after Covid is a distant memory.

Have any of you decided to do something similar? How did you break the news to your family that they aren’t invited? Do I wear the dress I bought for my MT wedding dream to the courthouse or wait to wear it down the road when we have a vow renewal?

I would wear it! With no plans in place for a vow renewal to happen in the future who know if/when it’ll even happen.
Plus a wedding at the courthouse is just as much a wedding as any other, might as well dress like a bride.

I would wear it to the courthouse! You have a GREAT opportunity to wear your dress twice!!

In your case, I’d wear the dress now because there’s no set date when Covid will be a “distant memory”. That might be another year or two (or more) after your ceremony and you’ll probably want something new to wear by then.

I think that's a great plan Kara! That way you're not postponing your marriage, just the big party!!

And I'd totally wear your dress to the courthouse! Smiley heart

Thanks all for the input. Looks like it’s time to find someone to make some adjustments on my dress so it is courthouse ready come March 2021.
