Planning for 16 months....

Morgan, on January 4, 2015 at 8:49 PM Posted in Planning 1 26

Is planning for 16 months excessive? Our wedding is not until May 2016 but we already have the venue, caterer, dj, and photographer we want. Booking our venue on Tuesday. Are we taking this too fast?

No, you'll be less stressed out! I have an 14 month engagement and i planned all of my vendors quickly and i feel like its been smooth sailing ever since. Vendors book out quick- sign the contracts as well soon as you find someone you love! Enjoy planning Smiley smile

Nope your fine. Think of it this way, you won't need to be staying over getting things done and can relax if you want. At the same time 16 months goes by fast.

I took 26 months to plan and if I had to do it over again I wouldn't change that time one bit! We booked our venue last January with 19 months out, then our photographer and videographer were shortly after that. We had all our vendors booked by the one year mark and it was wonderful. It was nice to take our time to decide on vendors and research our options thoroughly. We also were really happy to get our first choice with every vendor.

I did however take the whole summer off from planning because I was studying for my qualifying exam (the exam I had to pass to get my masters and pass on to the PhD level of grad school). That test is why we had such a long engagement. It was great knowing that during my studying I had a ton of time still. If you have a demanding job, kids, etc you'll appreciate having a long time so that if you just have to get work done you don't feel guilty for not doing wedding planning.

It has also been great because with so much time after booking vendors I can enjoy doing some of the crafty things that aren't necessary but I get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Thanks guys! I go work and go to the University of Cental Florida full-time so I don't want to stress during the semester.

I've been planing since we got engaged in April. We get married this October with 9 more months to go! Honestly I found doing everything earlier to be the best. You get your choice of vendors and you know exactly what you owe and when you owe it. I didn't want to settle and I'm happy I didn't! So far so good. Now I get a break between planning the holidays and the upcoming wedding festivities! Go for it, you won't regret it. Good luck & enjoy it!

I planned 18 months ahead. Everyone thought I was crazy but now it's 2 weeks until my wedding and I'm not running around like a chicken without a head and I'm cool as a cucumber. The only thing I suggest waiting for is the dress because if your anything like me it was so difficult to maintain my weight for over a year

I have a 21 month engagement and the first year flew by like I don't know what!! Just like you I booked the venue, photographer, videographer, and Dj within the first 3 months of our engagement. I thought I was moving too fast too, but it was perfect timing because life happened and I was not planning for a few consecutive months. So no, I don't think you're moving too fast. If you're one to change your mind often, that may bite you in the butt in the long run. I'm one that knows what I want and will go after it and I rarely change my mind.

I planned 14 months in advance, nothing wrong with getting in early! Besides, it'll give you time to think about smaller details etc Smiley smile

It gives you more time to research all of your decisions. Also great if you are doing DIY projects- more time to do it! it makes it less stressful, plus more time to save money.

16 months is not too early. We were able to get all the vendors we preferred, with the exception of our 1st choice for the venue.

I started planning at 15 months. We got all of the venues and vendors we wanted. If you can make those decisions and not look back good for you! So many people second guess their choices and that's when things get counterproductive and stop being fun. I think you're on the right track. Closer to the wedding you can relax and pamper yourself instead of being stressed trying to stick to a back-heavy wedding planning timeline. Good luck!

Nope. I was engaged in May 2013, decided October 2015 for wedding. Booked venue October 2013. Fell in love with venue and since we were booking 2 years out we got 2014 prices since he didn't have 2015 prices out yet. At 1 1/2 years out we booked our photo, video and dj (one company), florist over a year out and hair and makeup 1 year out and dress 1 year out. We have our favors already. My FFIL is marrying us. I feel less stressed and don't have much to do, but girls dresses, tuxes and BP gifts. Someone at work was like "what will u be doing in September you will have nothing to do wedding wise" to And I was like "relax and get little things done." Getting things done early means you get the vendors and venue you want.

I think it's good to get the "big things" out of the way! Especially vendors (like DJ and photographer) that can only do one event per day.

I did the same thing! You never know what may come up in life. Sometimes the sooner the better plus I like being organized and prepared so if something does come up there will be time for another game plan.
